The machine includes an adjustment dial to set the length of stitches so that you can work from fine to heavier fabrics. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely love! I bought mine March 2020 and have put it through it paces since. It has worked flawlessly. I will say right out of the box I had to fiddle a bit with the upper and lower tension to get it just right but haven’t had to adjust it since. I also bought one for my daughter and she has had the same experience and loves hers as well.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Buyer beware I was very excited about this machine, but when it cam it worked once and the the stop motion wheel locked. I couldn’t take it back to a store. I had after spending a half of a day on the phone had to send back to Janome in the Midwest. Joann won’t let me return it so I am without a machine I bought. I hope it will be fixed and work but it will be 3 weeks before I know . Don’t buy from the website if there are problems the buyer is responsible to work out the problem. I hope never to shop at Joann’s again, but it’s the main fabric store in my town. Buyer beware.

This one reminds me of the sewing machine my mom owned in the 80s. Sturdy and built to last and runs so smoothly. After owning some of the cheaper models, it is really worth it to spend the extra to have quality tools to get the best, most efficient results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New brand for me and I'm impressed I have had "other" brand machines for years because I always found them easy to use and fairly consistent and reliable. My last machine just didn't last that long, however, and I was disappointed and honestly never felt like the motor on it was ever all that strong anyway compared to others of similar models in the past. So when I looked to replace it I decided to look around at other brands and reviews specifically for a stronger motor and reliability. This model, even though it's not the newest model, repeatedly kept coming up in various reviews and I noticed that the price had remained fairly stable for the unit even though, again, it isn't the newest version of this model. The fact that it isn't comprised of all plastic parts was another big positive for me although it's really not that much more weight and it's still much lighter than my serger. I've had it a couple weeks now and after a very short learning curve (where things are and how they are accessed, etc) I'm very pleased with the quality and function of this machine and more than happy I made the switch in brands. Fewer fancy stitches than other models, but I never really used them much anyway and absolutely would trade them for the stronger motor and sturdier build of this unit over the plastic throw-away parts other brands seem to have turned to.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best machine I've ever had I have had 2 of these (This model is identical to the thread banger I had in 2004). These machines go for 8-10 years if you take it in for normal service to a sewing store or just oil it regularly and keep dust out of bobbin chamber. As another reviewer noted- no cheap thread! No cheap needles either! Use Gutterman needles and match them to the project. Secondly do yourself a favor and study tension settings. For example you can't sew vinyl on the setting for cotton batiste, if you do the machine will jam up and of course your needle will break. Mechanical machines are wonderful, but remember you are 100% in control the machine is not going to do anything for you. It's a great machine, take time to learn it ❤️

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stay Away This machine is just a complete flop. It always jams up, it can't reliably sew through vinyl, and sometimes it cant even sew through cotton without jamming up! Every time I pull this thing out to sew there is ALWAYS some kind of mechanical problem that takes an hour to fix. I've had it for a year and last night i just about almost chucked it out the front door.
