I have made over 70 sweaters for one year olds (also making berets to match for girls). Many people have told me that they consider these sweaters treasures and carefully stored them after the child outgrew them. For years only used "Natural heather", but recently added "Blush heather". I TRUST Lion Brand Wool-Ease yarn and love starting each pattern--knowing that the yard is always perfect, knits up well and holds up after washing and drying--without shrinking. As I have an active full life and several grandchildren, I find peace and comfort in knitting with Lion Brand Wool Ease yarn.
Date published: 2019-01-08

Rated 5 out of 5 by BevD. from My favorite yarn! I'm amazed at all the people who say this yarn pills. I've used it for many yrs & have never had that experience. The only things I can think of is that either it's because I crochet (mostly) instead of knit or it's that some colors are different. I mostly use White, Fisherman's, browns & mixed neurtrals like Pines. I love this yarn. It is soft & remains wonderful thru many machine washings & dryings. I made afghans, slipper socks, sweaters & most anything I want out of it. I wouldn't use it for anything that needs to be stiff though. Ir has a very nice drape to it. Like another reviewer said, the only yarns equivalent on the market are Patons Decor & Plymouth Encore & they are both much more expensive.
Date published: 2008-02-01

Rated 2 out of 5 by Anonymous from You get what you pay for I've used this yarn over and over because of the price. It's fine if it's knit at a very firm gauge. I've used it for socks because it can be machine washed, but again, be sure to use needles between 0-2 so that the socks don't wear out in just a few months. If it's knit too loosely, it will pill horribly after just a couple of washings and will not hold up to daily wear and tear, especially at the hem lines and the underarms of sweaters. Use sharp needles, rather than blunt bamboo needles when knitting, otherwise, it will split and frustrate the knitter. OK, all of that being said, the price is very nice but if your project is ambitious, it would be worth spending the money on a better quality of yarn.
Date published: 2009-01-22

Rated 4 out of 5 by Carol from Wool-Ease Chunky vs Wool-Ease Worsted The socks I made with Wool-Ease Worsted don't pill as much as those made with Encore Colorspun brand. However, I am trying to figure out what the little white flakes in the yarn are from. Could it be from the laundry soap I use? The Wool-Ease Chunky is the best yarn. I think it is spun tighter than the Wool-Ease Worsted. The Chunky yarn doesn't pill even after the third machine wash and dry. My hats and sweaters look great! People say they look like pure wool even though they don't feel scratchy against my skin. The Chunky yarn doesn't generate the little white flakes either. They get washed with the same detergent.
Date published: 2006-03-20

Rated 2 out of 5 by DawnS from Not good anymore, the weight is way down I have used wool-ease for many years. Matter of fact I still have an old stash of it. I ordered new colors for a cardigan and 5 more hats. I found it is now like DK weight instead of worsted and the gauge on #8 needles does not compute at all. I am going to have to double it to come close to gauge when I do the hats. It is a shame that I am going to have to search for a new wool mix that will be fit for kids hats and their mother to wash and dry. I am done with wool-ease after this year. Lion Brand should re-rate the weight of this yarn.
Date published: 2014-09-11

Rated 3 out of 5 by Jacqui from Nice colors, feels great, but poor quality I bought 17 skeins of this yarn-in 8 different colors-to work an afghan pattern from Lion Brand. I love the colors and the feel of this yarn, but am VERY disappointed in the quality. I have found many places where the yarn has been tied. The yarn splits quite badly; some colors are worse than others. And EVERY SINGLE one of the pull skeins pulled out from the center in a huge knotted, tangled mess. It was frustrating to start each new skein by spending a long time untangling and rewinding the yarn. I love Lion Brand's patterns, but in the future I will use a different brand of yarn to work them.
Date published: 2007-01-10

Rated 4 out of 5 by tejedora2006 from I almost returned this yarn !!! This yarn feels very soft to the touch when you hold the skein in your hands but when are knitting really tight, specifically while casting on it was very harsh to the touch. So I was this close to stop casting on my project and take the yarn back. However, after a few rows when knitting with it looser, it got a lot better. I think it is a good product for the price, but definitely you can feel the harshness of the Acrylic in it when knitting with tension. Final product seems OK to the touch, but of course don't expect baby alpaca feeling for this yarn. I think it is a good option for children clothing because is very washable and cheap.
Date published: 2006-02-12

Rated 3 out of 5 by Cynthia from Rate 80% I started knitting a year ago, mostly with acrylic yarn. This year I wanted to go to the next level. Wool, but with an ease. Wool-Ease: I've read great things about this brand of yarn. Other reviews on the nay side gave me mixed emotions. Joann was having a good sale, so why not purchase two skeins for a Hat and Cowl project. Pros: - Soft to the touch, and remains smooth while knitting. - Color is beautiful. Nice light sheen (very light). - Great Stitch Definition. Plus. - Washed in Gentle cycle, and dry flat. No Pilling so far. Not keen on using the dryer for knits or crochet. - Bounce back into shape when worn. Cons: - Even though its a 4 ply, the yarn is thin for a worsted. Feels more like a DK Weight. - Splits at times, and 1 or 2 knots in skein. Pro & Con: - Gauge was hard to achieve with a 8 US needle. My knitting tension is kinda loose. So I went down to a 7 US / 4.5 mm. Work with a gauge of 5 stitches per inch. I would purchase this brand of yarn again. If you're new like me, new to stitch area. Swatch and treat. Don't sweat it if you don't arrive at the labels gauge. It's process and outcome that's more important.
