Very SoftThis is the first Wool/Alpaca yarn I've every purchased and worked with. I am surprised at how very soft this yarn is! (I own some handmade natural fiber hats and scarves and find them to be a bit scratchy). I just completed a crocheted beanie and couldn't be more pleasd with the size 3 weight and color (Scarlet).

Finally Found ItI have been looking for a yarn I can use for most of my knitting projects for a long time. I finally found Eddie Bauer extra fine merino wool and alpaca yarn and am working on one project and bought enough yarn for two more. The yarn is soft, smooth to knit with, and since I prefer working with size US 3 to US6 needles, the gauge is perfect. I like the colors and purchased off-white, blue bird, and scarlet to knit three spring and fall tops. Joann's usually has the yarn on sale so my yarn has been a great buy.

Great WhiteFor knitters - at first, this yarn is so splitty when casting on. I tried pulling it from the center of the ball, but it less splitty when taken from the outside (due to the twist). I also tried several types of needles and IMHO, using a sharp needle like the Hiya Hiya sharp makes the splitting so much less. As I got further into my project, I no longer had the splitting issue. So, I think it is more about having a tighter tension. If you knit tightly or cast on tightly, just know that it will split more at first so, plan on taking a little extra time for the cast on and first several rows. The yarn itself, is so lovely. It is next to skin soft (I am very sensitive and I believe babies could definitely wear this yarn next to skin.), which was such a lovely surprise. It has a light halo, so no mohair needed. The yarn knits up acting like a light DK, so there should not be a problem using this yarn in a fingering weight/lace weight mohair combo, a true DK or Sport weight pattern. (Disclaimer - I have only knit with white. White is typically bleached. Different color yarns (commercial) are typically processed with acid dye washes. Because of this, yarns may feel, act a little different, and may feel thicker or thinner depending on that process.). I am in the process of ordering more colors (back today for black). I truly love this yarn. It is definitely a new favorite.

Soft yarn with a great priceBought this yarn after seeing it in store but the store had limited colors. Although the alpaca guard hairs kind of stick out, you can easily pull them off. Yarn is a tiny bit rough straight from the skein but after blocking it with a wool wash and some hair conditioner, it softened up so much and drapes beautifully. I bought 5 skeins in green olive and scarlet and 6 in aqua. Planning to make a few cardigans with them for the colder weather when it comes around.

Gorgeous!!This yarn is perfection. It makes such a smooth and soft fabric. It has a small bit of fuzz, beautiful stitch definition and minimal splitting (none actually). I just love it and just made a second order. It’s great to work with.

So darn softOkay, so I love this yarn. It’s a thinner 3 weight for sure, but it’s so wonderful to work with. This is Tunisian Crochet & I used Alaska Gold & Off - White. I’m making a sweater with it :) @knot.diamond

What a stealOk, so I was gobsmacked to see an alpaca/merino blend here at Joann. Usually if there is a higher end fiber, it's blended with an acrylic, which is fine, but seeing this one as purely alpaca and superwash merino caused me to immediately order.
I love it.
It's soft, but it doesn't shed and the yardage is a steal at the regular price, let alone when it's on sale.
I love that Joann is beginning to curate and carry a more high end fiber selection at an incredibly affordable price.
