These Hooks Smell Awful
I bought a packet of 3 (sizes 8, 9, 10mm) at my local JoAnn's. When I started using them, I noticed an odor that I couldn't find the origin of. But after a few minutes I smelled the hook and the hook REEKED. Imagine a smell that rivals a bodily orifice... a sphincter if you will. It's gross.
It's when the aluminum gets used/heated up by my body heat and emits an foul odor.
I washed the hook I was using, let it dry, and it was fine. As soon as I put some friction on it, it started to smell again. So it must be something with the aluminum or the finish that is stinky. I can't handle it. These are going to be returned.

It’s a no from me
Nice crochet hook, good for the price. But good luck removing the price tag/label without leaving a nasty, goopy, sticky film on the hook right where you hold it. And it also smells weird. I’d pay twice the price that I paid just to not have to deal with it.

Just Right
The brand I usually go to for crochet hooks. Very pointy, which helps stitch into tighter chains and finicky stitches. Never ran into staining like others mentioned, so it might be only for that color? I use my blue 5mm often and never had a problem.

Only if you can find old stock.
With my last online order, half of what I ordered ended up being produced in China under what appears to be a different manufacturing process. The hook basin is a different shape that catches yarn and the end of the hooks are so pointy I had to file them down. They are still good if you can find any from Mexico or Malaysia.

Do not purchase this
I purchased the I size hook (hot pink/red) and just like the other reviewer said, after using it, my hands were full of hot pink/reddish paint that rubbed off from the hook onto my skin. It did not come off with just soap, had to scrub it off with a pumice stone. This had never happened to me with a crochet hook before.
