Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for plushies I love using this yarn for making crochet plushies! I like that it’s a bit thinner than the regular bernat velvet. The only times I run into issues is if I frog my work too many times (fuzz will start flying lol) or I don’t manage the skein well enough and I end up with some knots. But mostly overall, I never run into issues using it and I love the color options. It’s also perfect for making hair scrunchies, and I’ve even made a couple cardigans out of it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not My Favorite I’ve never worked with a yarn that gets so quickly tangled. I’m very disappointed because I bought five skeins of it, but oh well, you live and you learn

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes wonderfully soft toys Really great to make amigurumi toys. You will get yarn barf. A little patience and it comes free. Also made a hooded pocket scarf for DIL. Caveat: Do NOT sew with it, LOL! Madeca reversible octopus, and had to sew around all those tentacles. Covered in fuzz! Use a matching acrylic or even sewing yarn. I've made 5 octopi and the skein still feels full

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lost ⅓ of the skein! I usually love the velvet yarn, but with both these skeins, I lost more than a ⅓ of the ball due to it being super thin and falling away. I wasn't able to take it to the store to return because it was happening as I was using it. So I would have to pull until it got better and then start crocheting again. Real pain in the butt. And it's expensive, so that just makes it so much more irritating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this yarn for making teddy bears! Crocheting with this yard is super easy and very smooth! Makes the softest stuffed animals and blankets!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Absolute Garbage In one skein alone I’ve had 11 breaks that I’ve had to redo. This is for a baby blanket which I’ll never gift. I’ve been crocheting for over 60 years and this yarn is garbage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It feels sooooooo good to crochet with! The texture of this yard is enjoyed from the beginning to end of the work AND THEN enjoyed by my grandson, and others who receive the gift of my work, for years to come!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Doesn’t wash well I’ll never buy this yarn again. It’s easy enough to work with but is very tricky if you have to do any frogging. I’m glad I washed the blanket I made before giving it as a gift, because a single washing, on delicate, completely ruined it!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Awful Super soft but looks like a rag after washing on delicate! All that work for nothing! I wouldn’t give this to someone with a new puppy let alone a baby!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just ordered a ton- already in love! I just bought around $250 worth of this yarn and boy am I excited to use it! This is some of the best yarn I have ever come across!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So soft. I love to work with Bernat bBaby Velvet Sometimes it is a challenge to start pulling from the center but I’m careful not to pull tight causing it to knot. With patience it always comes undone. As to the loop problem I check often for times I let my tension slip and work the loops out as I go. Love it for Tunisian Crochet. Blocking also eases loops. It’s worth the extra care when using it. It feels so soft for my arthritic hands. Remember you get what you pay for. Though not cheap but worth the price for a softer more lovely result. I would also like some brighter colors.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Falls apart when washed I crocheted a baby blanket and noticed the stitches seemed to not hold well in some spots. The yarn was so soft and pretty, I kept going. After I finished I followed washing instructions and washed on delicate cycle. Stitches came apart all over the blanket. 3 skeins of yarn, multiple hours….now worthless. Very disappointed. By the way I’ve used a LOT of the Bernat yarns in various projects and this is my first disaster.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from update to 'terrible product for knitting' review I thought if I reworked my knitting project and made an hdc scarf, which would be a relatively tight stitch, the yarn would work out. After I finished the scarf (54"x10 1/2") I put it into a 19"x16" mesh bag for washing. I left it in the bag, dried it on low for about 10 minutes and took it out to finish by air-drying. As you can see by the attached pictures, it didn't shrink but is completely unusable because of all the loosened & looped stitches. Between missing a stitch multiple times when decreasing while knitting (the 2 not being knit together because one stitch slipped off the needle) (I've been knitting for over 55 years!) and the looping regardless of type of craft (knit/crochet), this is probably the worst yarn I have ever used.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gray - Bernat Baby Velvet Yarn When it comes to Bernat Velvet Yarn, you will see a lot of feedback/complaints advising that the yarn is slippery, doesnt hold stitches well, or that it's difficult to work with. While this is only partially true, the truth is that you need to use the right size hook/needle and the right stitches, otherwise yes, this yarn will create bunches in loops and will lose its shape. As a crocheter, I ONLY recommend using Bernat Velvet with single crochet stitches. Anything larger and the yarn will slip, lose its tension; it will bubble and flip, and you'll be mad about how much time you spent making a blanket that is no longer flat or straight. Otherwise, it is a great yarn, so soft to work with; doesn't tangle very much. I used the Baby Velvet in Gray to make my Zombie Bat as a part of my 100 Bats Project.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for amigurumi This yarn makes wonderfully soft stuffed toys. The only downside I've found so far is that when frogging (ripping out stitches), the yarn can lose some of its fibers, leaving a bare string. I've learned to frog gently when using this yarn. I agree with another reviewer that there needs to be more colors available.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Extra Loops I bought this yarn for a baby blanket and was very excited because it introduced a different texture. My daughter is now one month old and the blanket I made is unraveling before my eyes. I have been crocheting for almost 10 years and have never had this happen. The stitches aren’t holding and the loops that have resulted are dangerous. I am now unraveling the blanket I crocheted months ago and replacing the rows of velvet yarn with a different yarn. I thought maybe it was just a me problem, but my mom made two separate blankets with the same yarn and they have the same problem. I don’t know what is causing the stitches not to hold but I strongly advise against buying this product for an infant due to the hazard.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very disappointed in this beautiful yarn Just finished knitting a baby blanket using a simple pattern and the recommended size needle and it is so soft but it looks like an old dishrag sure to the working with loops all over and big holes. I can't even imagine what it will look like after it is washed. Im not sure I will be giving it to our new great grandbaby but I don't have time to make another. A month of work down the drain.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Super soft, but tricky to work with My granddaughter chose this yarn for her Afghan. I had made a baby blanket with it before and there were too many loops that slipped out, so I wasn't thrilled about using it again. I ended up using a hdc stitch, but hooked it beneath 3 threads instead of just the normal two. I used a smaller hook than the yarn suggests. And I kept my tension tight. I am pleased with how it turned out, but after reading the other reviews, I am concerned about laundering it. The yarn is slippery and difficult to work with, so I recommend leaving long tails to weave in and working them in several directions so they don't slip out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Homespun I used Lionbrand Homespun (color: Tudor), primarily, to knit and crochet an afghan. The yarn was soft, and easy to work with. The finished result was stunning.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible! Unusable after washing! While I enjoyed crocheting with the yarn, I was shockingly disappointed that I’d wasted my effort, time and money on this yarn. After laundering and drying per instructions, the blanket had huge loops all over it, in both types of stitches I used. And now no baby gift at the ready. Will try to at least get my money back.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Softest Yarn Ever....except... That said, I was disappointed with the results both with multi strand and single strand crocheting. This yarn is so soft and smooth that it does not stay in place. It slides out causing loops everywhere. I have made a 2 strand at a time afghan that I took apart about a foot in because I thought I was doing something wrong with the tension. I ended up completing and it is the warmest heaviest afghan we have and for that I love the yarn as well but it has pulled strands all over it. Same happened with a single strand afghan in a simple half double crochet design, and a sweater again with double strands. I used the recommended size hooks so that wasn't the issue. Wish I knew what the problem is, because the feel of this yarn is simply amazing.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Depends on what your project is For amigurumi and items that will not be commonly washed, this yarn is a dream. HOWEVER, if you are making an item (such as a baby blanket) this yarn will be your worst nightmare. If you have to undo a stitch, the yarn "balds". Loops show up after washing, even according to instructions. I made my son a very advanced blanket consisting of cabled celtic knotwork. The yarn was difficult to work due to the slippery feel. It's been about 9 months and the blanket has held up somewhat well. The yarn is still very soft and hasn't had too many loops appear. The blanket is my son's favorite item for teething. The yarn breaks with little resistance. I already have to remake this blanket, but I doubt I will use this particular yarn. I am searching for a thicker sturdier velvet yarn in emerald green so he doesn't catch the swap. If you are making a garment or blanket, run from this yarn. Long term, it will let you down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crochet Obsession * A must have I love this yarn!!! The only downside is there aren’t enough colors available. I wish they would keep pastel colors all of the time. I definitely do not like the mustard yellow. I’m making my granddaughter a snuggle blanket and pale yellow was one of the colors she wanted. Nonetheless, I do love this yarn for baby blankets, infinity scarves, prayer blankets and NICU blankets. The yarn is so soft. Keep your stitches tight for best results. Buy, buy, buy!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unusual problem I crocheted a wrap with this yarn and it turned out well, or so I thought. Just in manipulating the project, loops of yarn began to appear in random places. I thought washing it might set the yarn, but even on the shortest delicate cold cycle per instructions with no other items, it came out with large loose loops all over both sides of it! I can't imagine what caused this, and it had begun even before the item was washed. The project only had mostly double crochet with some single crochet, using both loops. No unusual stitches at all. I usually do easy projects, but I've completed several intermediate ones with great results, so I don't think I did anything wrong. Also, while the actual crocheting with this yarn was easy, the skein had many, many tangles that were almost impossible to untangle. I finally had to cut out one section of the yarn. The yarn is very soft with a velvety feel, but at the same time is slippery. My project is basically ruined. I don't know if this was a defective skein or what, but I can't recommend this yarn at all. Still trying to figure out this strange problem--there were no breaks in the yarn, just pulled loops all over the place.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible! I thought it was me. I crocheted a baby blanket out of this yarn and I ended up throwing it out. There were so many loose loops all over that I was shocked. I thought I was doing something wrong. Now I know it was the yarn and I’ll never buy it again. What a waste of time and money.
