Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Soft I used this to make a chunky knit "duvet cover" for the Fairfield Weighted Blanket Insert. For one side of the cover I did a gradient pattern with the Crimson and Black and for the other side I used Vintage White, Blush Pink, Burnt Rose, Burgundy Plum, and Gray Orchid intertwined with K&C Spark yarn which was a beautiful pewter color and gave just a bit of sparkle while still being soft and not scratchy. Unfortunately I think it's discontinued now which is a shame because the K&C line has beautiful yarns but I was lucky enough to find 2 skeins before it disappeared which was just what I needed. I didn't have any issues with too many knots in my skeins, each one was enough for me to do about a 13in wide stripe on the multi-colored side of the blanket. There is some slight variation in dye batches which is slightly noticeable on the gradient side if you look closely. Overall the blanket turned out pretty, soft, and very nice.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love this stuff I love the bernat blanket extra. I have been finger crochetting blankets and everyone that has received them has been happy with them. They are great to make a chunkier blanket but not one that's TOO chunky! Super easy to work with and love that there are new colors!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from makes the fluffiest blankets I had been looking for a thick, fluffy yarn for a while to make a blanket, and decided to give this one a try. After being very indecisive with the colors, I ended up getting it in mushroom and teal. 6 balls total was enough for a blanket big enough to cover a twin size bed. I didn't have many issues with the quality like others have said. There were a few knots that were simple to untangle as I got closer to the center of the ball, but that's expected of any yarn. There wasn't any noticeable change in thickness or quality of the yarn as I switched from one ball to another either. Overall, I'm very happy with how my blanket turned out and will be returning when I make more! I've gotten lots of compliments on my blanket and plenty of requests for gifts lol

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bernet blanket extra I seen you have a new color in but yous don't have any in stock in store or online! Why show it then. You should of waited until you have some in!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cute but too skinny of yarn The yarn is labeled as Jumbo 7 yarn but it is not, it store like jumbo 6. It's very skinny, but it's a nice yarn and I love the colors

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This yarn unravels like crazy. I love the softness and the ease of using it, but after getting halfway through my afghan I noticed the unwoven in ends wer starting to fray. Some of the started to just fall apart. I had fuzz all over and my blanket was missing a row from the middle. Just can't recommend this yarn.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Too many tied together sections I purchased the smoky green extra blanket yarn and have been less than satisfied. Two of the 3 skeins I purchased have had numerous sections tied together within the skein. Unfortunately, the skeins couldn't be returned because I didn't find these tied together sections until I was well into the skeins and had done quite a bit of work on my blanket. Very disappointed with the quality of this dye lot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to work with I've been making baskets with this, they work up so quickly and are quite sturdy. Anytime I go out with my basket I get compliments! Will be making plenty of baskets with this yarn.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pleasantly surprised First time using this type of yarn and I was a little bit nervous since it was a different brand from what the pattern that I was using. Not going to lie to you yes there was some issues we're towards the end like some parts of it looks like corn off or just leftover slivers were intermix with the fall but overall it worked fine. Had since have gone back and bought another one so I can finish up another project is in the same texture since my niece is going to love it and she has sensitive skin so she's enjoying this nice puffy warm blanket that I made her

Rated 2 out of 5 by from texture change. Purchased 8 skeins of yarn JoAnne fabric had left of the Bernat blanket extra yarn. I did not pay attention to the lot numbers as this was all they had and I needed them to make my blanket. Two of the skeins were thick and fluffy and soft, but the others were thinner tighter wove and look nothing like the first two skeins I used. Now I cannot finish this blanket with the yarn I purchased. When did they change the texture and stretch of this yarn? The color mathc was right on. Very dissapointed.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from My Own Experience May Not Be Yours... First off, as with any encounter I've had with JoAnn's customer service, they were incredibly accommodating about the issue I had with Bernat Blanket Extra. I've seen reviews that mention the lack of consistent quality. I've used Bernat for years and have certainly seen it slide slowly downhill. (But honestly, it's tough to name a product that hasn't.) I still find it worth purchasing since I haven't found anything else *at a reasonable price* that even comes close to the soft texture. The issue began when cutting short lengths for the tassels... all five skeins I used very easily unraveled. I tied knots as a solution, however, they did not stop the unraveling! Needless to say, the tassels ended up at less than 2" when they were intended to be 4 1/2". Also, as others have said, I found the weight/fluffiness to be seriously inconsistent. Of course, these issues were frustrating but the blanket was due to be sent off the next day so I did my best to camouflage them. I will chalk it up to a bad batch(es) and try again at a later date.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible texture and quality I just bought seven skeins of this to make an Afghan and I am going to return all of them. The yarn has a terrible feel on my skin, the only way I can describe it is that it sticks to my skin like a microfiber cloth. I could hear it squeaking against my crochet needle as I was making a swatch. I would hate to be covered in an Afghan made of this material. It’s like nails on a chalkboard. Additionally the center string came out along a length of the yarn. Poor quality

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yarn I love the selection of colors Joann's has of the Bernet Blanket yarn. Price was great too. I am in the process of making two big blankets for christmas gifts.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bernat brand has really gone down hill... They used to be a great brand and I've purchased multiple colors in multiple thicknesses over the years and I used to love Bernat. I recently purchased 20 skeins of the Bernat Extra Purple Sunset and only 6 of them were in good condition. The other 14 were shredded throughout the skein, had cuts and retied spots, blotches without any dye, were shedding and when used made a very thin and sad blanket. I had one skein that fell into 3 chunks of a knotted mess that I couldn't even undo. This is only for the Extra yarn and not even the normal blanket yarn that all had the same issues. I used to love their products and now I will be finding a new brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Quick Crochet Chunky Blanket I finished this super squishy blanket for my daughter in about 4 days. I used 6 skeins (2 of each color) and another half skein for the border.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mixed emotions I've been finger knitting for about 6 months now. Bernat blanket extra is what I've been using, doubled up. Far TOO OFTEN, the yarn strands is straggly, thin and sparse. It ultimately knits up ok and probably isn't noticeable once the blanket is done BUT the quality should be far better for the money!! Hey, Bernat!! Fix this issue, a call to China needs to be made.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bleeds Made a 60x75 red, white, and black blanket. The first wash in cold water turned the white pink (no trace of the black bleeding though). The red yarn also pulled apart more frequently, so perhaps just a bad batch as I have use the yarn without this type of problem in other colors. I wish I knew the direct contact for manufacturer since the blanket took 12 balls which was an investment let alone the time.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too many breaks I made a throw for my 6’3” son and it took 6 skeins. I will never buy the extra again. Some skeins had multiple breaks which means a lot of knots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super easy to work with for finger crochet I picked the Extra up accidentally and absolutely love it!!! The size, color and all features of the yarn were perfect for my finger crochet blanket. It was my fist time attempting this pattern as a gift for someone and it came out more beautiful than I pictured. I've already received another request for this blanket and have started it using the same yarn in a different color. Only four skiens made a large lap blanket.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not what was expected I thought this yarn would be for a chunky blanket. It's awful. Very thin and almost bare in places. Might be able to make a small couple of blankets for my grands. It was order to do the hand knitting. Not gonna be able to do it that way. Not happy at all. No more orders from me!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed I bought this yard to make the basket pictured on the label. The pattern was inside the label. This yarn and this pattern do not work together. A firmer yarn is needed. The basket just flops over. It will not function as a basket.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed Bought 5 of the same color at the same time (they all have the same numbers); ordered online and picked up in the store. As I knitted the first one and added the second, they were so thick and smooshy. And then I went to add the third ball and I quickly noticed a difference. The remaining balls are much thinner and 'sickly'. On the blanket it is very obvious where the change is. I'm upset with myself for not checking when I picked them up and more disappointed with Bernat.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Soft but not lasting I hand knitted a throw about a month ago. I started finding pieces of the yarn on the floor recently. At the same time, it looks like the yarn is unraveling or just falling apart. Because of this, there is now a hole in my blanket. I have another throw that I used the Bernat big blanket and no problems. Not sure why the difference.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful yarn! Made a blanket with this yarn and it is beautiful! The yarn is very easy to work with and really bulks up nicely when crocheting. The only drawback with this yarn, when I cut the yarn, the yarn would unravel or fall apart. Not sure how to prevent this, if even possible. Hopefully the blanket and yarn will hold up nicely after being washed. Overall, I do love this yarn!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This is NOT the JUMBO (7) weight like it says In the description details it says this is weight: JUMBO (7) but it is not. It is much thinner.
Date published: 2020-12-12
Rated 2 out of 5 by from This Yarn is not Jumbo 7 Thickness The yarn is great, but this is not the thickness advertised. It is much thinner than Jumbo 7. I will have to return because of this.Example included of a blanket I have that I made with jumbo 7 yarn and this yarn. The creme is the jumbo 7.
