Rated 1 out of 5 by from Please separate the iDye naturals and iDye Poly into 2 separate items I was in a hurry to buy the iDye Poly in Kelly green to dye a 75% poly 25% cotton dress and didn't realize that this product page contains both the natural and polyester iDye packets. I was very confused when I received the iDye naturals packet in Kelly green and returned to the page to find a blurb in the product "cotton; silk; wool; linen and rayon (402-431) and polyester and nylons (447-462)." And I thought "no wonder the ratings for the dye on this website are so low compared to when I was viewing it on other websites. I wonder if some of them also ordered the wrong dye for their fabric type but didn't realize it." My recommendation, instead of a small blurb saying which serial codes are which product they should be separated into two different listings one for iDye naturals and one for iDye Poly in order to avoid confusion

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Oh boy... The dye itself worked great for what I used it for, compared to another popular brand I used it definitely dyed my fabric a dark black and it wasn't super streaky or anything. However: this stuff is TOXIC. The fumes are horrendous and difficult to ventilate unless you can somehow do this outside. Plus my kitchen was absolutely covered in black spotty coating after using it per the directions. I had to scrub my counters, floors, appliances etc. with bleach to get it off. Luckily most of it came off but this dye was an absolute nightmare to work with. The only reason I gave it a 2 instead of a 1 is because the color came out nicely on my fabric, but it is worth mentioning that it took countless washes (I'm talking 10+) to get the water to run anywhere near clear, which it still did not run clear with soap by the end. I tried washing machine detergent, dish soaps and even Dr. Bronner's. Any reviews of this product that I could find online did not mention any sort of thing like this happening so I was really annoyed by the end of the whole process.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible The violet purple I was going for ended up a solid lavender (at best) followed instructions exactly. Waste of time and money. Use Rit-no question.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn’t work and smells so bad I sewed a black dress with white thread for some reason so I tried to dye it black so the threads would not stand out. The black dress turned GRAY and smelled so bad. The towels I rinsed with the dress had to be washed 3 more times and I ended up throwing the dress away since it turned gray and smelled bad. The dress was poly cotton woven and I followed the instructions exactly for idye poly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice color It has a nice color. One pack goes A LONG way. Spandex fabric sucks the color right up and comes out very dark. 100% Cotton and Charmuese doesn’t take the color very well but it came out a very nice baby blue. I was able to dye some plastic shower rings and a polyester/plastic iPhone case. They came out very nice!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for faded bathing suits! Fabulous produce, dyed a bathing suit successfully. Can be a little messy because of the heat, but very manageable.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Total trash. Stick with Zeit. I used this dye exactly as directed, dying a gray garment black, and it did nothing but give the fabric a slightly darker cast. I wish I could return it!! So disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 2nd time using iDye poly and works like a charm Worked exactly as intended and ended up with a beautiful final product. This dye is very easy to use

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best.... I have heard about this iDye poly on web sites that sell bra making supplies and did not use it, I used Tuplit ( spelling ?) instead. My fabric wasn't what I wanted and the next day I went to another Joann store and bought this item in Green. My power net turned out the same color as the French Terry Knit fabric for my outfit. I would caution not to use to hot of water for elastic fabrics...just let it set in the dye pot long and watch the color evolve. Great Stuff for fabric. Will use again to dye fabric.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Streaky The yellow color is rich, adjustable, and my poly sherpa took it up well (boiling on the stove for over an hour), with a beautiful goldenrod/marigold yellow, but it streaked. Thinking I hadn't stirred it enough, I boiled the dye alone, thinned it out a bit to lighten the yellow, added a teaspoon of already mixed RIT blue to ease it toward neon yellow look, stirred, and put another piece in. Cooked that for an hour... streaked. The blue RIT (for poly) I was doing simultaneously exactly the same way turned out perfect. The color is beautiful - but only if you don't need one consistent solid color.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from About fabric finishes I've used this brand as well as other synthetic brands (usually Rit Dyemore). Anybody who used this and had bad results probably has an item they are trying to dye that has a fabric finish to prevent stains. This unfortunately also prevents dye from penetrating the fiber and yes, it WILL wash off. If anyone knows an effective way of removing fabric finish (washing doesn't do it) without weakening the fibers, please post. I've learned over the years to lower my expectations dramatically for ANY dye with dark colors. Notably, Rit doesn't even have a black in its synthetic dye offerings.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Green is the new black I followed directions explicitly, to the point of purchasing a large enough pot in which to process the fabric. I dyed two stark white 100% polyester dresses — separately. I was shooting for black, or at least a charcoal kind of color, knowing that synthetic fibers don’t tend to take on color very well. (This dye is specifically made for poly fabrics, and the brand receives high ratings online.) The first time, I let the dress cook for the allotted time. When that didn’t work, I allowed the second dress to cook almost overnight. Really didn’t make any difference, although the overnight dress was colored more evenly. Problematically, I never achieved black. I got green. I now have two green dresses. Ok. Well if this is as good as it gets, I feel they shouldn’t offer “black” at all. Just call it forest green and be done with it. Other colors might work better, so I’m giving it two stars. Good luck to anyone trying to dye polyester!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked great! I had to dye a white poly/rayon skirt. I wanted black. Used the iDyePoly for the polyester along with the regular Rit dye for the rayon. I was amazed at how well it turned out. It was a lot of work having to stir constantly (because of my stove it never did boil) for well over an hour, but the result was worth it. It came out more of a gray, but the color is fast and even. I will be buying more of this in the future. One caveat is that, having to use both dyes and keep the skirt at high heat for so long, it shrunk a little and is permanently wrinkled. If there were any way to dye it without the extended high heat, I would prefer that. Otherwise, this was excellent!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Polyester fabrics I have used this dye numerous times in numerous colors and get great results. It's simple to use, decently priced and there is a lot of room for customization with the water to dye ratios to get lighter or richer colors and mixing colors. I have only used the stove top method which works well for me. I have dyed tons of spandex from the Joanns swimwear line, dyed swimsuits and gradient dyed satin from the Casa line. I have also dyed wigs with it to get a slightly different shade on the wig (the wigs are a little more resistant to take the dye). You can also dye colored spandex to get different shades with it. I needed a dark red so I used the purple poly dye on red spandex to achieve the color. The few cons I have with it are the black dye comes out more like a dark grey, it sometimes streaks the fabric, the steam from the dye bath has stained my stove and the smell is strong. Other than that it's been great. Don't forget to keep the fabric in boiling water with the dye (hot sink water won't cut it) and add vinegar if the fabric is having trouble taking the dye. Also it's only for polyesters, use powder dyed for cottons. Below are photos of the dress I made out of white satin and gradient dyed with blue.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from WORST DYE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!! I bought one of every color they offered in this dye. After using it exactly as the directions said, the color washed away after the first washing! Do NOT buy this dye, you'll be greatly disappointed!!! I bought the RIT and the Dylon dyes instead and am very happy with those dyes. I will be returning the rest of the packets of this dye immediately and getting my money back.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a strong dye Bought this dye in turquoise. Followed the directions properly and it did not come out even close to the color I wanted. It appears baby blue. Will be using and offering dye over the fabric again now to try to obtain the desired color. Would not recommend this brand.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy this I bought this in brown & orange & it turned out terrible. The color didn't really hold & looked blotchy. I followed the directions perfectly both times & stirred it every few minutes. Do not use this dye! I re-dyed with Rit & it turned out perfect!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't even work I bought this to make a gradient effect with a 100% polyester skirt I have. The skirt is purple and I bought black dye. Now, one would think that using black would work, but it doesn't! I followed the directions exactly as it said, and it looked nice until I had to wash it, as the directions state. But the color washed away and I was so disappointed. It's a waste of time and money. Please, use a different brand because this one doesn't work.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't work! I bought this dye to take a shirt that I bought online and turn it purple for a costume. I bought it in violet and used the stove top method. I boiled it for about 1/2 an hour then just let it sit in the dye for another 1/2 hour and then put it in the washer just as the directions said. And hour later, I pulled it out of the washer and the fabric of my shirt returned back to it's original color but the tag and the threads had been dyed. I would not buy this again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great on 100% polyester. I bought this for sheer curtain panels that I was planning to use as a backdrop for a table cake. Bought two colors orange and turquoise. The orange color dyes perfectly even. The turquoise even if you stir constantly as recommended on the instructions does not color evenly leaving spots on the fabric. I only used the orange to finish my curtains . They look great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best Dye By Far I've never had more luck with a larger range of fiber than I do with these packets. I've dyed two silk fabrics of different weights and a wool sweater, and all I can really say is, "Wow." I've never found color as even and vivid as this, the drawback being that any polyester thread will show to high heaven. It does bleed a bit on second washing, so DO be careful with throwing your garments in with your whites. Jacquard is now my go-to for dyes, hands down.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Comes out uneven I used the bucket method for navy, red, and royal blue. Everything done with iDye came out streaked or blotchy (and yes, I stirred!). The Rit clothes came out smooth and even. Both had nice colors (except the red came out dark orange), but now I have to spend more money to re-dye the streaked clothes and even out the colors. It is not a money-saver if you have to do it twice! Especially in the middle of the worst drought in 500 years ... I will defintely purchase Rit and NOT iDye when I go to re-dye these clothes.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DIDNT WORK! :( I put this in my washer, followed directions to a T and it didn't even darken my towels. Thank god for Joann's giving me a full refund. I cant figure out what went wrong but now I have to find another brand & I have way too many towels to try the stove top method.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked great Was easy to use and with good results. The packet disolved well and didn't leave spots like other powdered brands. Worked great on white with a consistent, solid and rich color. I recommend using the washing machine method with salt. Came out great. Will use again for other projects.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing color! While the range of color in this dye is not wide, it can be mixed with excellent results. I wanted to dye a sweater the exact hue of a purple skirt and by mixing a batch myself I was able to do so. The colors are intese, they are lasting and they haven't had any residual bleed when washed with other cloths. That is fortunate as I forgot to wash the sweater separately! I have dyed my white linen blouses ecru, a very pretty color, my white jeans bright purple and some faded T-shirts a lovely olive green with this product. I got much more even results with just throwing the dissolving packet into my front loading washer than I got stirring the fabric on the stove. I am ordering more and really recommend it!
