DIRECTIONS:

  1. Download the pattern by clicking “download PDF" below Print Description on the right. Make a second copy of the pattern for the outside. Add 1" to the side seam, which will be the outside of the mask.
  2. Cut two of the new outside pattern using the outer fabric. Cut two out of the original pattern for the lining of the mask.
  3. Match outer pieces right sides together, and sew the outer curve using 3/8" seam allowance. Repeat with lining pieces.
  4. Open pieces and press both seam allowances to the right.
  5. Top stitch down the seam allowance, about 1/4" from the seam.
  6. Match front and back pieces right sides together, nesting center front seams.
  7. Sew across the top and bottom mask
  8. Turn mask right side out and press. Top stitch top and bottom edge of mask.
  9. Fold outer side seam in 1/4". Fold a second time 3/4" and top stitch down the edge to create a channel for the cord to go through.
  10. Cut cord to 52" long. Melt cut ends to seal cord and prevent unraveling. Pass ends of cord down through channels of mask and insert into cord stop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great idea I have been making this style (recommended for secure fit). I have a supply of cord ties and never thought of using them in this application. Ingenuous. The folks I made them for like the tie or cord style over the elastic... as do I .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great mask to modify I’ve been making a similar mask since the beginning and tried it this way with the paracord. I actually flip the cord the opposite way as it’s easier to slip on and tie. I have also used fabric ties. I haven’t used the cord stop yet. I had issues trying it with the cord this way honestly. It wouldn’t stay up on my head or adjust properly to my face. Just my experience anyway. I have a small head.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Using a Different Pattern I've been making a similar pattern that I modified from an online tutorial with a video that helped make the first couple. The pattern i'm using has a channel for a wire (I'm using pipe cleaners) for the nose bridge. Mine does not seem to have the loose portion under the chin, and everyone at my wife's work site seem to like the way they fit so they keep asking my wife for more, and they have options. I too added the cord stop as it makes using it so much easier. The pattern I modified is also available for the cricut and as a pdf with inner and outer portions as a template

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Camo Mask w/Cord With all the FREE patterns out there for sewing your own masks, this one is great. A quick reminder, that this is a template that will fit most, but not all. If the cord does not work for you then use elastic. If the mask does not fit your face cut the pattern to a smaller size or go larger. I have added a third layer to insert a barrier using the original pattern. Don't complain.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Reverse the cordlock and add breakaways. This design is lame, if you use a 8X10 rectangular pattern and add the drawstring, make the drawstring around the back of the neck(with or without a breakaway) then use a cord lock behind the head, paracord galaxy has them really cheap and several different types including little grenades. The photos below do not include the breakaways or the cordlock but the pattern is EASY and it is really comfortable to wear.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Mask I used this pattern before but had to modify it since it didn’t really work well. I now love how it works. I used Elastic Cord instead of the mentioned Parachute Cord along with the Cord Stop. This works way better and is more comfortable to wear. It does not strain the ears. As far as putting it on: 1. I would pull the cord all the way on the bottom put it over my head and let it dangle. 2. I would then stretch out (open) the top and pull the elastic cord to land on the top of my head. (As pictured in the product image) Pulling both cords at the same time and trying to get it over your head seemed a little more difficult to do, specially if you had glasses. With pattern modifications and using elastic cord this item is pretty great and comfortable.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Concern about gap below chin I am concerned that droplets will get in below the chin. The fabric is loose there and that is not a good sign. This pattern needs modification to be safe.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Difficult to put on. With all of the slack in the non-elastic cord, this mask is difficult to put on. As I kept trying to get it to just the right spot on the top of my head, some hair got rolled up and entangled. Also, it was difficult to get the top strap over my ears, the bottom strap around the back of my head, AND the top strap on top of my head---all at the same time. It's too much trouble for me!
