So much better than fine point replacement blade!
I primarily cut intricate stencils using my Cricut Maker out of Mylar 6mil plastic. These gold tipped premium blades fine point last much much longer than the regular blades and do a great job.
For example, I was able to cut a large number of stencils easily with my first blade, which I assumed was a typical fine point blade. So when it dulled, I replaced it with fine point replacement blades. I was only able to use these regular blades for just a few cuts before I had to start adjusting my maker to press harder or cut 3+times just to ensure a clean cut (and often that didn’t work; I wasted A LOT of Mylar). I quickly went through three fine point blades and realized none of them worked like the first one, and in fact didn’t last past a couple of stencils (if they worked at all). I was so frustrated wasting money, time, and supplies. Then I realized there was a premium blade (they have the gold colored shaft) and the regular (silver shaft). The blade that I had originally used which lasted a long time was indeed a gold one.
Now that I know the difference, I will only ever buy the premium blades. For such a small difference in price, you save yourself lots of headache.

Not compatible
I swapped this premium fine point blade into my machine, that was using a regular fine point blade. After swapping these easily, the blade no longer cuts and the machine will not recognize this blade. Calibration does not recognize the blade either and the machine is updated, cookies and cache cleared.

This is the way.
I'm new to the Cricut world and didn't understand what was happening when the blade that came with my machine suddenly stopped cutting my paper projects properly. After a little research, I decided to purchase this premium blade. What a difference! I definitely recommend this blade for anyone who is going to do a lot of cardstock cutting on their machine. I had a big project, making wedding invitations and the premium blade definitely holds up a lot better than the standard blade.

Cuts WAY TOO DEEP
I purchased a 2 pack of replacement blades for the first time since I bought my machine. My initial blade was still cutting but finally dulling after almost 3 years. The new blades seem to be slightly longer and cut all the way though whatever carrier sheet/ backing is on my HTV and adhesives, and are also causing a lot of damage to the brand new mats I purchased with the blades a month ago. I have to cut on paper- even for flock and glitter heat transfer to keep from causing more damage to my mats, but haven't found a suitable solution for adhesive and easy weed. The carrier sheet is basically pointless as it no longer is a solid sheet once the vinyl is cut. Its very disheartening and causes projects to take a lot of extra time and work. I wish they would go back to how they were before. Or at least have a quality system that makes sure their new style of blades are actually the right length.
