Use the right tool for the job ;)
These are perfectly fine snaps. Setting snaps are a tedious task on general principle, I think it's just the nature of the beast. I ruined quite a few before I figured out which part went up or down, so hey, just stop the car and read the directions, maybe google a few pictures. *sigh*
My best recommendation is to ditch the cheap silver metal tools. Use a certain purple Snap Setter tool (google is your friend here again), size 16 base kit for the non-pearl side, plus the Size 18 "pearl" adapter.

Don’t go cheap on the setter. Get the really good expensive one. It’s worth it.

Snaps look great
I have a hard time finding snaps. My father has trouble with his hands and these snaps work perfect on his shirts. And they look great.

Hard to use
I bought these pearl snaps a couple months ago because I loved the fancy look they offered. However, I have been unable to get a single snap to actually stay together. I think the prongs are very short and may work well on thin fabric, but I have not been successful in getting them to work with anything thick at all.

I love these little buggers
Gen. Kutuzov, (from the film of Tolstoi's, "War and Peace") "Time and patience. Patience and time." using this advice and ....
Using the Dritz "Easy Attacher" Snap Fastener Kit, and the instructions on the back of the card, I was (at age 78) able to attach 7 sets of these little buggers in less than an hour. Not 1 piece wasted.
You can make it a chore or overcome a challenge .... your choice.

Too small for fleece!
Need "Pearl" snap fasteners in Heavy Duty. This size is too shallow for 2-ply sweatshirt fabric.

Snap Fasteners
I use these snaps all the time. I do sewing and alterations in a Nursing Home and use them a lot for our Residents. The only issue I have is that the package is to small. I wish they would sell them in bulk.
