You have to cot a hole to size and wrap it around the longer eyelet, the place the upper eyelet over and use the tool to hammer it together. The eye let will not penatrate the material on its own and the process will destroy the material if you don't cut and tuck initially. Sell your hammer and do yourself a favor before you get hurt.

Terrible grommets, incredibly worthless, wasted $$
Did not work at all. Needed to use wire cutters to cut it to get it to remotely work. Caused several more problems than the one it barely solved. If you want to struggle for over an hour on something that should take 10 mins., feel free to waste your time and money on these!

Works perfectly!
I bought this a couple days ago to work with duck canvas for a backpack. Make sure you get the kit with the application tool! I followed the instructions and had perfect eyelets for the backpack. Definitely needs to be done on a concrete surface. I didn't need to use much force either.
I bought it after reading Sues review and was worried but fear not! It works great!

Having the same problem Sue is. Have hammered as hard as I can with a real hammer on cement, but cannot get this grommet to close up. Using it through three layers of heavy cotton twill, but it is no where near biting into the fabric. What a waste. Now have to figure out how to salvage this project...

Easy and look great!
Read Sue's review prior to purchase and was a bit nervous. But I had no problem using this kit (perhaps Sue didn't have the kit w/ the tool needed to install them?). As directed, I cut holes in fabric, placed eyelet and washer on opposite sides, and used anvil, tool and hammer to install. Simple and they look great!

This is way too hard to use!
I've been working with this for 2 1/2 hours now and I have 8 partially installed. I'm using a heavy duty hammer and hitting it as hard as I can (and I'm not a wimp) and not one is completely closed and attached to the shower curtain I'm making. The profit in making this shower curtain will be a loss in the end because of the time involved in using this tool.
