works, but not matte.
works really well to seal, but more of a semi-gloss finish. it also doesn't smell great. if you want a good matte finish, try decoart's ultra-matte finish, it much better as an actually matte varnish.

As a sealer, it works fine but it has some shine, so it should not even be called matte.

Not matte
This seals paint well, but it does not leave a matte finish. It is closer to a gloss with how much shine it leaves. I purchased to remove shine, but now there is more than before.. in no way is this matte. See photos~ those are dry.

Great for Quilling
I quill (paper filigree). I've tried glue, fabric stiffeners, and decoupage. All 'open' the curl of the design. This product enables me to stiffen my ornaments but does not leave a shine and causes minimal distortion of the rolled paper. How I apply: Assemble my quilling; with a foam brush or paint brush apply a light coat of Dura Clear; 'blow off' excess (I use a straw); let dry. Flip project and repeat.
