It includes two spiral-bound activity card sets, a Pete the Cat Your Groovin Schoolin Friend pen, reward stickers and an award certificate for little learners who are ready to advance to the next level. Perfect for independent learning, your child just needs to press the pen on an answer for immediate audio and visual feedback. It promotes hip, interactive learning and offers ample practice time. The game develops early learning skills necessary for school success, provides confidence-building feedback and encourages independent, self-paced learning. It is compatible with any Hot Dots or Hot Dots Jr. card sets or activity sets. The included pen requires two AAA batteries, sold separately.

She liked the fact that Pete's eyes lit up and produced different sounds if her answer was right or wrong. The questions were on grade level for the most part, though I would have liked book 2 to include more challenging questions. I am giving it 4 stars only because I wonder after going through the books, if my daughter will go back and use the books again. It would be great if the toy had additional books to purchase that are of increasing difficulty.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun exercise to either introduce or review concepts My daughter is in kindergarten and reading well. She could have gone through the books on her own, but she enjoyed going through them with me. The multiple choice format was similar to her homework at school, and she loved when the pen would turn green and play music (when she chose the correct answer). My only suggestion would be to make the music a little more lively or have the cat say something positive when the answer is correct. Otherwise, it is a nice little exercise for kindergartners to either introduce simple concepts of patterns, numbers, and reading, or to reiterate concepts that have already been taught to them. In my daughter's case, it was more of a review and possibly on the easy side, but still fun and enjoyable nonetheless.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cute and educational I love the character Pete, so I was really excited to see how my younger son who's 4.5 likes this toy. It's actually very educational and if your kids are into learning like mine, they will love it. The only thing is that all the questions were written very small and not easy for my son to read on his own so I had to read them to him. But even without knowing what the questions are, I think kids will have fun just placing the Pete pen over the answers because it makes silly noises. Overall it's a very engaging toy/learning tool for little kids!

Although I have a Kindergartener for whom this was given to, all of my children (even my 7th grader!) loved being engaged with this interactive toy! What I especially like about this is that the questions in the books are not rote procedural, but "common sense" with real life applications. For instance, "Which are healthy choices?" or "Which is this animal's baby?" I also like how the books include both reading/comprehension AND math questions. Great product!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun, fun, fun I have a son that is in kindergarten and he LOVES this Pete the Cat Hot Dots! It is super cute (what 5 year old doesn't like Pete the Cat?), gives positive feedback with cute little music and besides being educational it also helps with fine motorskills. My 1st grader loves it as well. The multiple choice questions on letters, patterns, and compare/contrast help reinforce materials from his school curriculum. The only con-My son couldn't compeletly play on his own because each problem requires reading a question. My kindergartener does not read yet (except for easy sight words), he is able to figure out most of the answer by looking at the pictures but I still felt like I needed to read for him.

Initially I was concerned that the Kindergarten version was too easy but it seems to be perfect in helping her to reiterate concepts she has learned. Answering questions correctly helps to reaffirm her knowledge and boost her self esteem - the green lights and music help as well. This has been a lot of fun for her.

My daughter was already a fan of Hot Dots, and she was instantly drawn to this set with the included cat "wand". Two books are included, which offer a variety of different questions to answer that focus on development of different skills. The questions are age appropriate, the art is fun, and "Pete the Cat" is adorable. I do wonder how many times she'll be interested in going through the book additional times, but it's great while it lasts. Here's to hoping additional books are planned for this series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressive and captivating I'm really impressed with the quality and design of this product. Honestly, it's more fun than I thought. My girls both still pick the books up themselves to play. It's easier if we read to them, but they have a lot of fun playing on their own. The questions are dead on accurate to their educational level and even a little difficult at times. Most of the problems are perfect for them, there are some math problems that are a tad more difficult but when I explain it to them they understand. I like that it challenges them and gives them and opportunity to learn something just a hair more advanced than what they're currently doing in school. The cat pen is a ton of fun lighting up green when you're right and red when you're wrong. It plays a little tune as well. Fun and educational game that holds a pair of 5 year old girls attention.

He is not able to read on his own yet so we did have to read the questions to him which was a nice evening activity to do. He did understand all the questions and found them easy to answer. Love that Pete the Cat lights up and makes sounds depending on if you are right or wrong!! Also he loves the stickers that came with it. Overall I find it to be a good educational toy for him!!

This item has alot of colorful pages and kids dont necessarily think of what they are doing as reviewing concepts they learned in school. However, mine soon got tired of using it. Overall though I think it is a fun way review of concepts that they are being taught in school.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun for a while My daughter loves Pete the Cat and was really excited to receive this. The box was easy to open. The Hot Dots pen can be used with any of the Hot Dots book and is really cute. It does need 2 AAA batteries which are not included. It comes with 2 spiral bound Hot Dots books, which are durable and small enough to place in a purse so they can easily be taken on the road wherever you go. My daughter loves that the pen immediately gives her feedback. If the answer is correct, it will play a correct answer sound and Pete's eyes light up green. If the answer is incorrect, the eyes light up red and plays a different sound. My daughter loved going through the books and answering the questions, but once she is done with both books, I don't see her using this much anymore. Also, the child will either need to be able to read on her own or have an adult help.

It's both entertaining and educational and definitely holds his attention. We like the fact that it requires us to work on it with him, since he isn't reading on his own yet. We highly recommend this product and have already ordered the Hot Dots Jr. Let's Master Kindergarten Reading.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun and interactive! I have a 3 year old in preschool and 6 year old in first grade, and both kids really like the Kindergarten Rocks set! My first grader is not able to read the questions herself yet, so she needs help from me for that. The questions themselves are more on the kindergarten level, since she knows most of the answers immediately. My preschooler just likes to play with the Pete pen and make the sounds! We received it last week, and both of them are still playing with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Learning Tool I received this set for my 5 year old son for some fun activities to do in addition to his normal schoolwork. He loved it!!! He went through the entire first book in one sitting after we opened it!!! It was very fun and he loved the sounds the pen made and the light up green eyes for the right answers....he did his own celebration as well :-). He was definitely more willing to sound out the single words or small sentences to read in order to answer the questions than with just reading a book. The stickers were an added bonus and he asked if he could get a sticker each day if he did the book.

He just wants to move the pen so he can see the cat light up and know he is right. Our only difficulty was the pen had to be in the exact center for the green eyes (right answer) to appear. Frustrating when he knows he is right and can't get it in the exact spot the book wants. Otherwise we enjoyed the different content throughout. The pictures and questions were quite engaging. *I was sent this product for review but all opinions are my own.

I love the character and lessons included. I will say we had to sit and help our sone read each lesson but that was easy and perfect if you are waiting in doctor office or for dinner to be ready.

The Pete the Cat -Your Groovin' Schoolin' Friend pen is cute and we love that it works with our other Hot Dots Jr. sets. The books are perfect for her at this learning stage and she doesn't want to put them down. As a parent I love that she is so excited to learn and that this is a fun educational activity even after a full day of school. She asks to use her "Pete Books" so we know she is enjoying them.
