Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pete the Cat makes Hot Dots even more fun! My preschool son is a fan of Pete the Cat and really enjoys this educational toy. We have other hot dots sets but he prefers this one the best because of the character and sounds the pen makes. The questions are at a good level for my 3.5yr old, but the only negative is that I need to be there with him to read him the questions out loud. We love to travel with this toy so we keep it in the car for use at restaurants or appointments. This would make a great gift as it's fun and educational.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Our kids really like the Pete the Cat character Our kids really like the Pete the Cat character, they were familiar with him already from books we have so they really enjoyed a new toy with him involved. I really liked that games and questions were meaningful and followed a structure. We have a similar product that was given to us as a gift a year ago and I don't think the level of activity is as meaningful or thought provoking and it has some super weird juxtapositions of meanings of words with Disney cartoon characters. Our kids have kept going back to the Pete the Cat pen both independently and with us reading the questions to them a lot over the past week and a half, so they are definitely interested. It is also very portable and fits easily into a backpack - great for taking to restaurants or in the car.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Interactive Learning This was our first Hot Dots product and I was very impressed by the quality of the spiral notebooks and pen - definitely an activity that we could pack up and bring along with us on the go for our 3.5 year old daughter without worrying about it falling apart. However this is an activity that must be done with parent or older sibling involvement because she doesn't yet know how to read, so someone has to sit with her and read each question aloud to her. The age range is listed as 3-4 year olds, but most of the questions seemed too easy for her, except for the sequence/pattern ones...so I would imagine that this might not hold the interest of a 4 year old for very long. The only major negative we found is that the Pete the Cat Hot Dots pen FREAKS HER OUT....I think because the way the eyes light up, it looks a little sinister, so after a few unsuccessful attempts to get her to use the pen, we have now given up and hidden it away out of view - and she happily goes through the book using just her finger to point to the correct dot....which I suppose defeats the whole purpose of the Hot Dots function.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun way to learn with hot dots We already have the hot dots junior with the ace pen and were happy that there is a pete the cat version. Pete the cat is a favorite in this house. The questions were at a good level for my 4 year old and he loved the sounds the pen would make. He also liked the sounds of the incorrect answers, but at least he would go for the correct answer first before trying the incorrect answers. He did have trouble with questions that ask what item doesn't belong because he didn't understand why he would choose something that was "wrong", but I suppose that would be good preparation for standardized tests in the future. :) We like that the books are small and portable and I am able to toss them into my bag and use it while waiting at appointments or out and about. The award certificate and reward stickers were also a nice addition. Pete the cat make it fun working on phonics and counting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun, Colorful, and Educational! I received this item to play with and review but the opinions are completely my own. Pete the Cat is a popular character in our house. We have every book available, and we are glad to have this set in our collection. My 3 year old son loves using the hot dots pen and hearing the sounds when he gets right answers, and even enjoys hearing when he gets it wrong. ;) It is a great way for my son and I to have some time together. I read it to him and he selects the answer. This book makes learning fun! We have played it numerous times and he still enjoys it. The pages are colorful and whimsical just like any other Pete the Cat book. This is by far our favorite hot dots book! If you are a Pete the Cat fan and are looking for fun ways for your kids to learn, these books are fantastic!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun and engaging activity for preschoolers Our kids love Hot Dots and we have been using the yellow pen and the cute dog pen for several years now. We were super excited to see that Educational Insights created a Pete the Cat version. The kids love using him to answer the different questions. He has a variety of different sounds when they get things right or when they get it wrong. Our favorite part about the whole set are the actual questions. They see Pete from all of his different stories. So, they are always singing/chanting the songs that go with the character when they see a question. My daughter who is 3 needs some assistance when figuring out how to answer the question, but this version is a lot easier for her to follow than the older versions. The questions are appropriate for a preschool student and has a variety of skills/questions that are being asked. As a parent, I love the size of the book. The book is almost the size of a chapter book with 2 questions on a page. It is definitely a great size for my preschool daughter and can easily turn the pages in the spiral bound book. Since the pictures are so engaging the kids are quickly drawn to the questions and want to answer them. Overall, this is a great addition to the Hot Dots set and we can't wait to try the older Pete the Cat series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun & Educational We received this set at no cost for my four year old son to review. We have a few Ace the talking dog sets as well and they have been well loved. My son loved this set even more than the Ace sets. He recognized Pete from books we have read and liked the sounds it makes when he gets the answer right. Since he can't read, when he plays with it himself- he is usually guessing- as he can't read the questions. When I read the problems to him- he is able to look for the correct answer and loves that it sings when he is correct. I really like the things they are learning in them- it seems to be at the right level for his age. He enjoys it and I am happy he's learning while playing! The only thing I noticed different from the Ace sets we have that could be considered a con is the fact that the pages in the book are a little less durable than before. So far, we haven't had any issues with that though. We love that the Pete pen works on the books we already had too!

It introduces children to basic math, alphabet, shapes and much more. I love it because it motivates my daughter to learn, She celebrates all her correct answers. In just one week she learned so much. I highly recommend Hot Dots, It's just awesome!!!
