I'm constantly thinking of excuses to spend time designing and cutting something new. The Glowforge community forum is so friendly and helpful, and a great place to share and receive inspiration. This machine requires some basic design skills, but they're easy to develop and there's free software that can take you there whole way. You can start with simple projects and materials and grow better as you go. I learned the ropes with card stock and then progressed to wood and acrylic.

I'm the sort of person who collects hobbies, going all out for a while and then moving on to the next one, picking up the old ones now and then and putting them down again. We've got closets and boxes full of supplies for crafts that I plan to get back to "someday." I've had my Glowforge for just over two years now (I bought during their crowdfunding campaign), and my husband is amazed that I still use it every single day. It's so versatile, it's like a dozen hobbies all rolled in to one, so I never get tired of it. I've made jewelry, miniatures, art pieces, garden markers, collars and harnesses for our pets, lanterns, engravings, inlays, signs, displays, useful stuff for around the house, decorative tiles, and on and on. I got it just as a hobby machine, but I've even accidentally made money with it from time to time. Without a doubt worth the investment -- I don't know how I ever lived without it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pro unit as a hobbyist. I’ve had the Glowforge Pro for almost 2 years now, and use it for mostly personal projects. It is so versatile, as I mostly cut wood and acrylic. I absolutely love this machine, and it is fantastic for making personalized gifts. I recommend getting the Pro unit, as the pass through slot has many uses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing machine that keeps getting better! This is an AMAZING product that keeps getting better over time with software upgrades and enhancements. The pro-slot makes this cutter / engraver a gem because you can use material up to 20" wide and infinite length. I've had mine for about 2 years now and I'm constantly amazed at how simple and easy it is to use. Granted I'm an AutoCAD geek, so I know how to design in 2d for vector files, anyone can pick up and learn Inkscape pretty quickly to do some pretty advanced things. They also have an amazing forum of GF users that answer pretty much any question as fast as you can post them. I love it!

I've owned a Glowforge for awhile now and have had great success from being able to explore new hobbies and even make some money off it during the holiday season selling my own custom ornaments. Lets my ideas get out of my head past my uneducated hands and pushes the limits of what is possible to the limits of my imagination. The community in the online forum is the best part tho, very welcoming and very helpful. As well as the mountains of inspiration you can get from other users.
