SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
1 ¼ yd quilt fabric for self-lined bag.  If lining with a different fabric 5/8yd yd needed for outside and 5/8 yd needed for the lining.
1/2yd 60" canvas contrast handles & bottom
1 1/4yd heavyweight fusible interfacing
Air erasable fabric marker
Matching thread
Basic sewing supplies
Sewing machine
Iron and pressing surface

DIRECTIONS:
NOTE: Use 1/2" seam allowance.
1. From outside fabric cut two 20" H x 21" W
2. From lining fabric or if self-lined cut two 20" H x 21" W for the lining
3. From interfacing cut two 20" H x 21" W
4. From contrast fabric cut two pieces 8" H x 21" W for bottom contrast and two pieces 4" x 58" for the handles.
5. Following manufacturer’s directions, fuse the interfacing to the wrong side of the two outside fabric pieces.  
6. Press under 1/2" along one long edge of each of the two bottom contrast fabrics.
7. Place one bottom contrast piece over one of the outside fabric pieces lining up the 21” raw edge of the contrast fabric with the 21” bottom raw edge of the outside fabric.  
8. Top stitch the contrast in place at the fold.  Repeat on the other outside piece.
9. Press handles in half lengthwise, then open and press edges to center, refold to 1" and press.
10. Starting from each end of both handles measure in 19" and make a mark.  Top stitch the edges of the handles from one mark to the other (the handles will be top stitched along the edges in the center of the handles).
11. Measure in 5 1/2" from the sides of the bag and make a mark.  Measure several places along the sides and mark for the placement of the handles. 
12. Line the handles up with the marks and pin in place starting with the end of the handle at the bottom of the bag then going up along the marked line then back down on the other side ending with the other end of the handle at the raw edge of the bag bottom. 
13. Repeat on the other outside piece.    
14. Edge stitch both sides of handles to within 1 1/2" of top edge.
15. Cut a 3" square from bottom corners of bag and lining pieces.
16. Pin together the outside bag pieces with right sides together.  Stitch sides and bottom together.
17. Bring side and bottom seams together where the square was cut out and sew together to form bottom of bag.
18. Repeat with lining; leaving an opening in the bottom for turning.
19. With the lining right side out and the outside of the bag right side in place the lining in the bag.  Match up the top edges and pin in place.   
20. Sew the lining and outside bag together along the top.
21. Turn the bag right side out and press.
22. Edge stitch along the top.
23. Finish stitching handles to bag through all thicknesses.
24. Slip stitch opening closed.
