Fabric Garden Box

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

• 2 yds brown felt
• Wood crate
• Fab Lab™ chenille stems, 6mm x 12"
• 1/4 yd each, Calico Keepsake Fabrics in various patterns & colors
• Pattern templates
• Sewing machine
• Coordinating thread
• Sewing needle
• Colorful buttons
• FiberFill stuffing
• Wire cutters
• Scissors
• Hot glue gun/glue sticks

DIRECTIONS:

Garden Box:

1. Measure the inside width of the wood crate. Cut strips of the brown felt to the width of the crate x 2 yds.
2. Measure the height of the sides of the crate. Fold over one end of the felt to this measurement. Continue to accordion fold the felt by this measurement, gluing or sewing the bottom folds to keep them in place.
3. Cut every 1/2" along the top folds to create a looped fringe.
4. Create as many fringed felt pieces needed to cover the inside of the wood crate.
5. Hot glue these fringed felt pieces in place inside the wood crate.

Flower:

1. Twist together eight chenille stems.
2. Cut a strip of green fabric, 18"x 1/2".
3. Wrap the green fabric around the chenille stems and hot glue in place. Set stem aside.
4. Cut ten flower petal pieces.
5. Sew two flower petal pieces, right sides together, leaving the bottom open for turning. Repeat until there are five petals.
6. Thread a sewing needle with a length of thread.
7. Sew a running stitch along the bottom of each petal, then pull tightly to create the flower shape. Sew a few more stitches to secure the flower's shape.
8. Hot glue the flower to the top of the stem.
9. Cut a length of thread and sew a button onto the center of the flower on both sides.

Vegetables:

1. Cut each vegetable according to the vegetable's pattern template.
2. Sew any leaves or stems as needed. Place two leaf or stem pieces right sides together. Sew along the edge, leaving the bottom open for turning.
3. Place the body pieces right sides together. Pin the leaf and/or stem pieces down inside the two pieces from the top of the body.
4. Sew along the edge of the body, leaving a small gap for turning and stuffing.
5. Stuff the piece.
6. Cut a length of thread and hand-stitch the hole.
