• Circular knitting needle size 11 (8 mm), 16" (40.5 cm) long

HAT:
Finished Circumference About 19" (will stretch to fit a range of sizes)
Finished Height About 10"

MITTS:
Finished Circumference about 7" (will stretch to fit a range of sizes)
Finished Length About 8"

GAUGE:
11 sts = about 4" (10 cm) over Rnd 3 of Hat, slightly stretched.
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

DIRECTIONS:

NOTES:
Hat is worked in one piece in the rnd on a circular needle.
Mitts are worked back and forth in rows on circular needle, then seamed.

HAT:
With A, cast on 52 sts. Place marker for beg of rnd and join by working the first st on the left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle (be careful not to twist).

Rnd 1: *K3, p1; rep from * around.
Cut A and change to B.
Rnd 2: With B, knit (this rnd creates a smooth transition between the 2 colors of yarn).
Rnd 3: With B, *k3, p1; rep from * around.
With B, rep Rnd 3 until piece measures about 10 1/2" from beg.
Next Rnd: *K2, p the next 2 sts together; rep from * around - you will have 39 sts at the end of this rnd.
Last Rnd: *K2, p1; rep from * around
Cut yarn, leaving a long yarn tail. Thread yarn tail through remaining sts and pull tight to gather. Knot securely.

FINISHING:
Weave in ends.

MITTS: (make 2)
With A and leaving a long yarn tail, cast on 23 sts.
You'll be working the Mitts back and forth in rows, just as if working on straight needles.
Row 1 (Right Side): K3, *p1, k3; rep from * across.
Row 2: P3, *k1, p3; rep from * across.
Rep Rows 1 and 2 until piece measures about 6 1/2" from beg, ending with a Row 2 as the last row you work.
Leaving long yarn tails, cut A and change to B.
Next Row: With B, knit.
Next Row: With B, rep Row 2.
Bind off.

FINISHING:
With yarn tails, sew sides of piece together from bound off edge for about 1 1/2"

Leave next 2" open for thumb, then use yarn tail at cast on edge to sew the remainder of the sides together.

Weave in ends.
