It is a full sized mechanical sewing machine equipped with 22 built in stitches plus 1-step buttonhole all easily viewable on the flip up stitch chart. Janome’s world class vertical oscillating hook bobbin ensures straight, beautiful, consistent sewing on all fabric types. Convenient features like the built-in needle threader, auto-declutch bobbin winder, wide sewing area, and huge amount of accessory storage space make sewing enjoyable. The adjustable foot pressure dial allows you to easily adjust to any thickness of fabric from delicate to multiple layers with ease. Plus, the removable extension table for free arm sewing makes this machine versatile.

I plan to use it for my travel machine as well. Perfect for piecing. It would make a great starter machine for a new sewer. Has the capability to use for quilting too.

I have used it almost daily with no issues. The instructions are very clear and the dials make it simple to change stiches. The bobbin is easy to change. I have worked my way up from making pillows to just yesterday completing a queen size hand tied quilt. It sewed through multiple layers of fabric with no issue (even used it on canvas without a problem). If you are worried about a sewing machine being difficult this is the perfect machine!

Phenomenal stitch quality, with a nice package of useful stitches (including stretch stitches) as well as an easy 1-step buttonhole. PLUS you get adjustable presser foot pressure, an indispensable feature that is nearly impossible to find on new machines, especially mechanical ones. This feature enables you to sew virtually any fabric, and is especially useful for sewing delicate fabrics, as well as for quilting. This is a sewing machine that will stay with you for the long haul. It's also good as a second machine for taking to sewing classes and quilt meets. It's excellent for all sewists, from beginner to expert. Very quiet and reliable, so I cannot recommend it highly enough. I'd give it 10 stars if that were an option.

The description clearly states " Also included is a semi hard cover to easily store this machine when not in use." not sure why the machine did not come with it. Disappointed. Not sure what to do.

I have not used all the features yet, but it’s like my old Singer was a pinto, and the Janome is a Porsche!! Things are in different places, but that’s just me getting used to the machine. LOVE the side cutter, so I don’t have to pick up my scissors, which I constantly misplace while I’m sewing. It’s such a great machine! I was able to get it on sale as well, worth every penny!

Being busy over the holidays I just opened it and it is lovely, however, it makes a lot of noise when I stitch. It almost sounds like it is dragging or thumping or that the motor is laboring. Is that normal? I am afraid to use it. Help! I would prbably give the machine a higher rating when I figure out if this noise is normal.Considering returning it fearful is it defective.

    Rated 1 out of 5 by from Need help I just picked up my machine, and am unable to get the needle to center on the straight stitch setting, which seems to be combined with the left of center straight stitch on the selector wheel (doesn’t look like right of center is even an option). I can not find any help for this in the instruction booklet, nor on online videos that are linked here to a different machine that has a different setup. Super frustrating, I don’t know who to contact for help. This is such a basic function, not being able to figure it out, or it not working properly is disappointing.

I've always appreciated being able to clean it when necessary and this machine has easy access to that area. Love it's simplicity, it was super easy to set up and begin use. Little confused with the knobs and settings for fancy stitches, but I don't use those often. I've only had it for a week, but so far it runs extremely well and I'm hopeful it will last.
