Kinara, Candles, & Mkeka

KINARA

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Paper, wood design
  • Hot glue gun/glue gun sticks
  • Scissors
  • Pattern templates

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Make 4 layers.
  2. Cut out the pattern pieces using the pattern templates.
  3. Fold along the dashed lines.
  4. Fold each piece into shape and hot glue it secure.
  5. Layer the pieces one on top of the other. Hot glue them together.
  6. Trace the bottom of the piece onto the wood paper. Cut out the rectangle and hot glue it to the bottom of the Kinara.

CANDLES

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Paper in shades of green, red & black
  • Glitter paper in green, red & black
  • Pipe cleaners in orange, yellow, white & gold
  • Hot glue gun/glue gun sticks
  • Scissors
  • Pattern templates

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Make 3 green candles, 3 red candles and 1 black candle.
  2. Cut out candlestick piece from the paper.
  3. Roll the candlestick piece and glue the edge.
  4. Cut the candle wax piece from the glitter paper. Hot glue to the top of the candle stick.
  5. Cut two pieces of the candle base and glue them together to make a thicker base.
  6. Glue the candlestick to the base.
  7. Hold the yellow and orange pipe cleaners together and shape them into a flame.
  8. Hot glue the flame to the inside of the candlestick.
  9. For the black candle, shape the white and gold pipe cleaners into a circular halo and glue them to the inside of the black candle.

MKEKA

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Paper in shades of brown & natural colors
  • Hot glue gun/glue gun sticks
  • Masking tape
  • Scissors

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut 22 strips of paper 1/2"x 20".
  2. Cut 28 strips of paper 1/2"x 14".
  3. Lay the long strips one next to the other. Use masking tape to tape one end of the strips together.
  4. Weave the shorter pieces through the longer pieces to create the mat.
  5. Trim the overlapping paper.
  6. Put a dab of hot glue under each of the edges of the strips to make sure the mat is secure.
