Great for measuring, not great for cutting large pieces
I needed a large cutting mat, bigger than "large" ones sold in craft stores. I saw this and thought it would be great. Well, it is if you're simply measuring but not for cutting. First, the mat is not seamless, it's 3 separate mats that you clamp together with little brackets. I knew that but didn't think it'd be that big of deal. But it is. The brackets that you attach the mats together cause those sections to be raised so every 47 inches you have a wave in your mat. I removed these brackets and used duct tape on the back to hold them together. It keeps them together just fine but there is still a very tiny gap where the mats join, no matter how much I press the mats together. Ok, so that's fine for measuring but when it comes to cutting with a rotary cutter as there is always 1 thread that doesn't cut per seam. Might not seam like a big deal but on some pieces of fabric I cut, that is 6 spots (2 on each seam) that i have to use scissors to cut. That adds up on large projects I will be getting a seamless mat soon and use these 3 mats as separate pieces and not when I need to cut large pieces of fabric.

Clips are horrible!
Love-Hate relationship! The mats themselves are great. The clips that hold them together are horrible. Your fabric catches on them; your skin catches and they will cut you so then there's blood on your work; you can't use the edge where the clips are for the end of your ruler; thread catches. I've had my this setup for over 15 years; mats are doing great. I am totally surprised Olfa hasn't came up with a better way to connect these mats!

Product smelled awful.
I bought this six months ago, but did not take it out the package until now. The product smelled because the plastic has not finished curing. I cant believe that I spent so much money on this product and have to throw this away.

Do not buy if you value fresh air!
This cutting mat reeks to high Heaven. Yes! I aired it out on the porch. Brought one in to cut something and my kitchen had a terrible toxic plastic smell. Back out for another overnight on the porch. Next day i read lemon dish soap, so over they went to the hose with a clean rag I threw away after. Back on the porch overnight to dry. Tried again with all three mats, my house smelled AWFUL in one hour. I packed them up and took them back. I feel so sorry for the factory workers wherever these are produced. They will surely develop health problems. I can’t believe we aren’t protected better. Please do not buy, and if you do, please return it. No one should be allowed to produce something so toxic!

Horrible smell
Received this last week and the smell is so strong it permeates my entire studio, which is a big room. Smells like burnt rubber, very toxic-smelling. I did try washing it but the first try didn't get rid of it. I'll try again. This is my second mat from Olfa. The first one did not have this issue.

Love it!
Love this mat! I don't know why I waited so long to get it. Did not notice any smell as others have pointed out.
I just set it up on my table and the next morning I started my project.The big size makes it so easy to lay out my fabric and just keeping cutting without have to rearrange the fabric.
I did use a coupon to get a great deal on it and I would purchase again if need be.

Perfect huge cutting mat with alteration
It's a delight to have a huge cutting mat. But the metal clips get in the way of the plastic rulers, so I used duct tape in three places on the back where the mats join. I tape at the top, bottom, and in the middle. They lay perfectly flat. Just make sure they really meet.
