Rit Color Remover makes it possible to remove the existing color from yet-to-be dyed fabric, giving you a dye-ready canvas for spectacular results and true color. It's also the perfect solution for removing dye stains (washed by mistake with colored items) and even food stains (such as fruit juice, ketchup and tea) from whites. Unlike traditional bleach, which contains chlorine that can damage fabric, Rit Color Remover is chlorine-free so that you can safely dye fabric after removing its color. Perfect for dye projects where you want to completely change the color of the fabric or as a pre-treatment for faded, discolored and stained fabric. It can even be used to remove dye from fabric dyed incorrectly. Works best on cotton, linen, wool, rayon and ramie.

Not as effective as I had hopedI bought this to remove color from some pants that were tan with the intent to dye them a completely different color. They were cotton with just a touch of something for stretch. For these pants, it did not work at all. I ended up just bleaching them heavily to remove enough color to be able to dye them. It was extremely effective, however, for removing the color after I dyed another pair of identical pants. I used one of the Rit color formulas to mix colors, and the pants ended up with a bunch of red spots on them. I used the Rit color remover and it completely removed all of the Rit dye, leaving them exactly as they were before I had dyed them at all. So overall happy with the product, now I know what to expect with it. Good price at JoAnn's, so I'm not upset about the part that didn't work out for me. K

Great productI bought this product to remove stains from a stained bolt of fabric. It removed all of the stains, even the few watermarks I thought I'd have to cut around. I also used this as a spot remover on a suit, and it worked wonders. It removed a difficult lip gloss stain without affecting the color of the suit.

Great customer support, should have used sooner...Tried color remover on large silk drapery panel that was chartreuse. I knew it would be risky and treated it as an experiment. Used high-efficiency, front loading washer due to large quantity of fabric. Did not try to control cycles - just set machine to "bulky" and "Hot". Used 4 boxes of color remover for very large panel of silk. Water temperature was probably 120 degrees F. Followed all box instructions for prewash, post wash, and then dried fabric in sun. Result was fabric turned to medium shade of sage green - quite a surprise. One comment online said since drapery fabric is meant for sun, it can be highly treated for fade resistance, making it color-removal resistant as well. Here is why I give the product 4 stars: I write to the "Dye Doctor" at the Rit website to ask what color of blue to use to try to get more of a teal green. After I answered their questions about what process I had followed, they responded with the text below. The point is they have terrific and fast customer support. Had I contacted them before starting my project (I was too impatient) I might have gotten a more expected result. Lesson learned: Contact the Dye Doctor ahead of time for advice!
"Thank you for providing the additional information. Rit color remover requires very hot water, 140 to 160 degrees to activate. Some dyes can be more difficult to remove or lighten. We are not able to advise a color that would dye over the current color and achieve a teal shade. We would recommend turning your hot water heater up and trying the color remover again to see if you might remove more of the original color. Constant agitation is required for 10 to 30 minutes to remove dye. Soaking will not successfully remove dye from fabric."

Depends...Had a Halloween-dyeing-accident :-( and somehow managed to 'infect' both the washer AND dryer with red dyes. Tried all my usual stain fighting tricks, no luck. Then tried the Rit. Didn't totally work, but helped. But, that in combo with a post-color-remover treatment then normal wash then a LIGHT 'bleach' wash for the whites did it. I agree with the person who cautioned to use enough. I used one packet for a medium water level treatment (like the package said!) Maybe two would've worked better. But at least it didn't strip the clothes being washed of their original color. And you can use it on denim, velvet, silk, etc.
I've also used the Carbona, which you CAN'T use on denim, silk, etc. I worked GREAT for removing the dye run but STRIPPED half the clothes in there of their original color.
So I guess which product you use just depends on the base color of your article and how sure you are of its colorfastness.

ExcellentI'm working on a special banner as a gift and embroidered the person's name and special message on it. After I finished the embroidery, I rinsed the fabric to get the water soluble pen markings out. Much to my dismay, after the fabric dried, I found that the dark blues had run into the whites. I didn't want to have to start all over, so I researched and found Rit Dye Remover. I mixed 1/4 teaspoon of powder with 1/4 cup of boiling water and let it cool. I carefully painted the white strips of the fabric with a fine paint brush, staying first 1/4 inch then 1/8 inch away from the dark blue design. I left it to dry. When I came back, I was thrilled to find the banner with clean whites and bold blues, just like new! Excellent!

Color remover worked great!I accidentally dyed some of my husband's underclothes pink. I tried bleach - no luck. I remembered Rit and bought some. Washed according to directions and it worked terrifically. Whites are white again. I think the trick is NOT to heat dry the stained clothes before using the remover. Heat can set the stain and make it permanent. I air dried my things until I could use the color remover.

The pink is gone!My white cotton summer shirt ended up pink after being washed with a red item. Tries soaking it in OxyClean, tried bleaching it etc. Nothing worked. Saw this product at JoAnnes and gave it a try. Worked immediately! Very happy with the results. Make sure that you have the correct amount of product to water ratio. If you have too little product it may not be as successful. I soaked my shirt for a few minutes in a bucket that contained the solution then put it all into the washer.

Dang it.I had a shirt that had both white and red on it, and the red somehow turned slightly pink (it might have been another shirt that was the offender, but I'm not sure). The dye remover made it about ten times worse; it went from being a slight pink tint that I could still get away with to 'woah, that's pink' pink. =( There goes that shirt.

Works wonderI messed up my white clothes by washing them with a red shower gown: all becomes pinkish. I bought this online, but before it has reached me, I got one from local Jo-ann. After I dissolve the power into hot water with the clothes, within 30 seconds, the clothes all become white again!! I am very satisfied!

Saved my clothingI used this product on several expensive pieces of white clothing. I didn't hold out much hope. But when I took them out of the washer, the rust had disappeared. I'd definitely buy it again.
