  1. Using the attached pattern as a guide and stitch together all pieces using a 1/2" seam allowance.
  2. Trim down the finished three pieced fabric fronts to be approx. 25"x 16".
  3. With the right sides facing out, sandwich the backing, batting and fabric fronts together. Use safety pins to keep all layers in place.
  4. Straight stitch the quilting lines along both sides of the seams in the design. Approx. 1/4" from the seam.
  5. Prepare your binding pieces by folding and pressing all 6 pieces in half lengthwise.
  6. Line up the 25" edge of the canvas backing with the unfinished edge of the 25" binding piece and stitch with a 1/4" seam allowance.
  7. Fold this around to the front of the piece and straight stitch all 25" to hide the raw edge.
  8. Repeat the last two steps for all 6 binding pieces. You will not need to bind the top of bottom edges because they will be hidden under the wooden slats.
  9. Prepare the wooden slats. If they are not at the desired length, cut them down to 19".
  10. Place approx. 1 1/2" long pieces of Velcro (cut down to the width of the wood so they are hidden) on the inside of each wood piece. They will be all the way at the edges where the fabric won’t be in their way to stick.
  11. Add the Velcro to all 12 wood pieces.
  12. Sandwich the fabric art at the top edges between two wood slats and press the Velcro together.
  13. Sandwich the fabric art at the bottom edges between two wood slats and press the Velcro together.
  14. Cut down the cotton cording to 3 pieces at 38" long.
  15. Tie these around the top wood slats on either side of the fabric. This gives added reinforcement for keeping the wood together.
  16. Continue to do this for all three pieces.

JOANN HACKS:

  • As you stitch together the different pieces (in particular the triangular pieces) make sure to leave 1/2" seam allowances so that the points of the triangles come together correctly.
  • Trim down and square your shapes as you piece them together to ensure they all fit together correctly.
  • If you feel that the wood slats need added support to keep the art pieces in place, hide some added Velcro on the front and back (at the top and bottom) of the fabric that can stick to the wood.
