Rated 1 out of 5 by from What happened to this brand ? Bought it because of the brand and as my eyes aren't that good anymore I was sold on the" self threading" feature ...ugh..big mistake ! It is too quite complicated and I still needed someones' else help because I couldn't see what I was doing. So that cancels that benefit. 2'nd - that thing is BLACK ! And the light from the puny lightbulb is not enough. White machine reflects light - this black obviously doesn't so the side light is needed or you'll be sewing literally in the dark. And the worst part is performance !!!! I used the machine only few times to shorten pants etc, nothing heavy or complicated. Stored in closed case with a hard cover. Few weeks ago needed to use it again ..nope , wouldn't turn at all. Took it for maintenance, they oiled it and tested and I thought , ok. works. So started sewing at home ...maybe 15" of stichting ..now is shredding bobbin thread and pulling the fabric in. I'm done with it ! What on Earth happened to this brand ?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from JanomeHD Black Edition Heavy Duty I am going to return it. It will not keep the bobbins close to the machine, it keeps stoping.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High Quality Mechanical Machine This is a great machine for sewing and quilting, with excellent stitch quality. It's good for quilt piecing, quilting, garment sewing and decor sewing. It has a metal frame and metal parts inside, much better than the usual plastic disposable junk machines that are out there. Most of the bad reviews here seem to come from those who bought machines that were refurbished but sold as new, and from user error. You have to match the needle to the type of fabric and thread that you are using. And it is important with vertical horizontal bobbins to THREAD AND INSERT THE BOBBIN CASE PROPERLY. DON'T use cheap thread that will lint up your machine! And thread your machine right, and follow all of the instructions in the manual, and you should have no problems.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Would not recommend if you work with fleece!!!! The tiniest bit of lint and you are cleaning for half hour to hour trying g to find the problem . I was so excited to get this till I realized it’s not good with the fabric I use most

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not good Got back in March 2020 and I want to put it in the garbage all the time. Didn’t send it back because it was all I could get or that was in stock. One wonder it was in stock because no one wants it. Don’t buy this get from someone else. I have it a 2 because I can still get it to work sometimes.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Was sent a returned machine I ordered from Joanne.com and the machine came pretty fast. Almost as soon as I opened the box I knew it was a returned machine. The case was full of scratches, and the Styrofoam had been definitely broken in multiple spots from unpacking and repacking the machine. I still went ahead and tried the machine. The handwheel, and hardstop wheel kept stop communicating so the needle would get stuck constantly. The feeddogs kept catching whatever type of fabric I put on, and the machine kept stalling while needle was in down position. I am returning the machine to the store, and letting the representatives know that this machine should not be restocked as it does not work if it has already been returned once before.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Janome HD1000 I really wanted to love this machine but I I can’t seem to purchase one that actually works. So far I have purchased 2 at different times and both were broken and one seemed to be used not new. First one I purchased a a Joann store. Packaged perfectly and pristine but the clutch was broken and I could not get the needle to engage. I returned it and purchased another one online at Joann. That one arrived and was not packed like the first one. It was scratched up and thread lint was everywhere. Obviously it was used and not brand new. I could have overlooked all that but the feed dogs were obviously broken and the fabric would not advance no matter what I tried. I returned that one as well. Now I’m afraid to buy any machine from Joann.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good machine, a little quirky I like this machine, but there was definitely a learning curve after moving from a brother machine. As someone else mentioned, it is really difficult to wind bobbins on the machine. I could not get the traction to change. I watched many YouTube videos and was frustrated that I had so many problems with it. I gave up the ghost and purchased a “Side Winder” bobbin winding machine and I’m much happier. I had a hard time sewing through 3 layers of linen while trying to make a pleated mask, so it isn’t that heavy duty for me. That said, once I got over these quirks I think it is a good machine I will use for many years.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Look I purchased the Machine because it looks like it has all the features I would like to use. However, I think this Machine was USDED and Returned. I wasn't satisfied with the Quality of this Machine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy transition for mature beginner My adult daughter is a beginner, but has jumped right in, figured it out & is creating constantly!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Machine This machine is so quite even after about 90 hours of heavy duty sewing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Meets a need The machine handles the work it was purchased for, but did require more cleaning of the bobbin chase than I am used to. I will continue to use it for heavy work, but it will never replace my other two machines for everyday and fine sewing projects.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Frustrating I have sewn before, but am certainly no expert. I bought this machine because my daughter wanted to learn to sew and I have some plans to do some light duty upholstery work on some of my woodworking and car projects. This thing seems to bind up in the bobbin area a lot. It is very frustrating for someone learning and my daughter and I have spent as much time diagnosing why the machine isn't sewing properly as we have actually trying to learn to sew nice seams. I'm not impressed. I was trying to buy something that is better than a typical beginner machine so I wasn't struggling with the machine itself when learning. Should've just bought a cheap machine I think. Not sure there is any advantage in buying this machine.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bobbin issues I may have just bought a defective machine but it was an terrible machine. The needle would jam constantly in the bobbin. I tried for hours and couldn’t sew even a basic item. Returned it to the store the next day. I love the replacement that I purchased. Replaced with a Singer patchwork quilting machine and it works great.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don’t waste your time. Loud, jams a lot, shakes, a nut fell out while I was sewing. I only had this machine for 3 weeks. Took it back.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Janome HD 1000 Black Edition Heavy Duty I already sent you a review but got no response, so here goes again. On-line ads touted this machine as able to sew through 8-12 layers of heavy denim, leather, even a wooden yardstick! Well, maybe but to me, it's no better than any other sewing machine and in some ways, worse. It stalls, going through 5 or 6 layers of COTTON. In the threading process, it has chintzy-looking thread holders - and a lot of them! It was difficult to loosen the interior (traction) wheel in order to wind the bobbin: I could not get a good grip on it. Made for an 8-year-old's hand size, maybe? When I sewed my first pieces together (as instructed, sew for 2 minutes due to possible oil discharge on new machines), the bottom thread was straight and the upper thread was loopy, despite the fact that I had adjusted the tensions as the instructions suggested. I had to play with it a bit, to get the machine to sew with even tension above & below, but instructions say to put it on 4: mine is past the 5, heading to 6, to get it to sew correctly. After 10 or 15 minutes sewing, the bobbin thread broke and the machine was absolutely FROZEN. I could not budge the hand wheel forward or backward. I tried everything and finally ended up removing the two bobbin holders from beneath the machine surface (you have to take the plastic storage bin out in order to do this): Eventually, I was able to grab the broken piece of thread and dislodge it. BUT THEN, I was left with a torn-apart bobbin area and it took MANY attempts before I was able to put it back correctly. This wasted 1/2 hour of my time - on a brand new machine!!! I have sewn for 50 years and to me, this is NOT a quality piece of equipment, nor a "user-friendly" machine. I gave it a "2" because with several adjustments, it did sew. But it is NOT the wonderful, heavy duty machine it is advertised to be. It is just mediocre, typical made in Taiwan quality. I bought it to make masks, because my old Singer gave up the ghost. Sorry I picked Janome. I will be returning it as soon as I can get into the store. Thanks for asking.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Confusion on advertising vs reality This machine is listed on all the ads that I can find as 1.0 AMP. I bought one this weekend and the sticker on the back lists it as .7 AMP. I purchased it for its heavy-duty nature. Would have rated higher if not for this discrepancy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not heavy duty in my opinion I bought this about a week ago and I keep wanting to return it. the bobbin compartment is frustrating to put back and I've never had so many struggles with a machine when its brand new. It struggles going through my elastic banding or folded too many times. The only heavy duty part about this machine is the front plate and base of the machine and the fabric plate. Its a metal. the rest is plastic. I'm disappointed because I love the look of the black but the machine doesn't work as well as the new ones i've purchased in the past.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great machine with a few quarks I bought this machine a while back but really just started using it in the past few weeks. It's a great strong machine. It does have a few odd behaviors that you have to learn but over all I'm happy with it and would by again. No bells and whistles but a good workhorse.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from This machine is a disappointment. Already having problems with this machine. I have only had it for a week and the crank on the motor gets stuck and the machine sews slow now. I will probably return it to Joann Fabrics. Would not recommend this machine.
