How To Get It
Used For: Used with thin or lightweight fabrics to stiffen, reinforce and provide shape retention on garments, costumes, accessories and crafts.
Special Benefits: Two main types of interfacing include fusible (which is applied with heat) and sew-in. They can be knit or woven, and come in a variety of weights to reinforce different kinds of base fabric.
Pellon® 551 Sol-U-Film™ is a water soluble stabilizing backing for embroidery. It is great for machine embroidery, appliqué, cut-work, and monogramming. It allows fabric to retain its natural hand and is great for stabilizing embroidery on specialty fabrics such as diamond pique, sportswear, and net, as well as on top of napped fabrics such as velvet and terrycloth to keep stitches from sinking into the fabric. The film is translucent, which allows for easier positioning. The film dissolves quickly and easily in water.

Does a nice job
I like to use this film when embroidering on fabrics with nap. It keeps the stitches from sinking into the fabric. I can tear most of it off and remove the rest easily with a wet q tip or tweezers

Best stablizer for machine embroidery
I love to use this stablizer for machine embroidery projects. It is easy to dissolve after completing my embroidery by just spraying water on it and wiping off the excess. I will definitely always keep a supply on hand.

I didn't realize that Pelon made this stabilizer until the nice lady at JoAnn's told me and showed me where it was in the store. I like that it is on a bolt so I can cut larger pieces than those that come on the roll.

Super Surface Stabilizer
I use this stabilizer on the surface of my fabric when I stitch a machine embroidery design. This barrier between the fabric and the thread prevents the thread from being embedded into the fabric. Upon completion of the embroidery I soak the piece in warm water to dissolve the stabilizer.

This product is spectacular when used for free motion stitching. I create fiber art foundations with scraps of fabrics and fibers. Put this on top to hold everything down and stitch away. It washes away leaving you with a very textural piece.

I do machine embroidery and use PELLON 551 Sol-u-film stabilizer - I LOVE this product and it disolves in water after my project is stitched out! I purchase a whole bolt so I am stocked up with my FAVORITE SOLUBLE stabilizer PELLON 551! I mainly embroider items for my three Grandchildren…LUKE (10), LYLA (9) and LACHLAN (5). They are also known as the

Terrific to use when sewing stretchy seams!
I used this to prevent rippling of spandex material that I was sewing small seams on. It worked very well on kinky material as well to prevent slippage as I sewed. Wetting and/or laundering the finished product showed that all of the product had “melted” away as promised! I absolutely love this product!

Unhappy with functionality
This water soluble stabilizer is not very sturdy. I used two layers of it because I was out of my regular brand but it still tore and bunched. When paired with the OESD brand it was fine, but not good on its own.
