Rated 3 out of 5 by DoItMySelfer from Works well; some concerns and glitches, though I have needed a yarn winder for a long time, and finally used a coupon and ordered this one online. If the store had had it on the shelf, I would have bought it years ago; all the store carries is an electric winder. The description on the web site does not include the handy, dandy, magnetic-tipped screw driver that comes with it. Keep it close to the winder. You will need it. I watched some YouTube's about how to set up and use this thing (the instructions are not the most complete), got my winder pieces together, got some yarn, and started winding. It worked like it should for a few skeins, then, all of a sudden, there was a "ping" sound, and the handle was disengaged from the machine. I took off the yarn, got the screwdriver, and proceeded to take all the bits off, then the bottom off. The tension pin that holds the handle to the gears is supposed to stay in its hole by being almost too tight to get in (this is a normal configuration for gear attachments). My pin had worked itself out with the action of the winder. There were also shavings from the gears laying around on the gears. I cleaned out the shavings, put the pin back in place, put the winder back together, and resumed winding. The pin fell out again, and again, and again. I finally got some white plumbers tape (like you wrap around the threads of pipes to keep water from seeping through) and wrapped around it, and tapped it back in. So far, so good. If it comes out again, I'll try a thicker layer of the plumbers tape and maybe some kind of tie that runs through the center. I am considering putting some lithium grease (like you put on the sliders on sliding doors on cars) on the gears because they are plastic/nylon...something that has the potential to strip easily. For the money I spent, I expected a finished product; I did not expect the steel gears and ball bearings found on the truly works of art ones, but I did expect to have the manufacturing process finished. So glad I did not pay full price. I would recommend this for anyone that is able and willing to take it apart and do minor repair to it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ohkay13 from helps in unique ways I have had this for three weeks and now can't figure how I got by without it. In just a few minutes it creates a center-pull skein which fits snuggly in protective canisters which allow me to begin and stop working on a project without concern of returning to a tangled mess of yarn. It is also wonderful at preventing the cat from "helping" me by using the skein as a toy. It is so nice to gently pull on the yarn as I work down a row and not have to deal with the periodic tugging to keep the flip flopping skein going. Very glad I bought the large size (on sale)!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Lisa from Works Great! On my first round, did 10 skeins. Worked great once I got the hang of setting it up and figuring out tension. All of one skein fit on winder without any problem. Cakes look nice.

Luckily I contacted Joanna customer service (very helpful)and it is being replaced. Hopefully the replacement one lasts longer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Cecilia from Better than sliced bread! This is a pricey item but if you wait for it to go on sale, it is so worth it. Can't figure out why I waited so long to purchase one. Glad I went with the Jumbo Yarn Ball Winder as it handles a multitude of yarn weights and sizes. No brainer assembly and they even supply the phillips screw driver to put it together. Love, love, love this!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Laura from It's terrific! This jumbo yarn ball winder arrived a few days ago after I ordered it with a 50% online discount coupon. Assembly was easy with the included phillips head screw driver. I have found it to work like a dream winding bulky yarn (4 or 5) up to about 7 oz and also about 6-7 oz of bulky (6) yarn. I think it would wind more, but I have not tried it yet. Knitting from one of the wound balls works well because the ball doesnt roll all over the floor. Overall - Its terrific! Recommend highly!
