Lion Brand Fishermen's Wool Yarn is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 60.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not fabulous OK, WONDERFUL yardage for the money. That's pretty much where the love ends here. I found in just a single skein several knots and broken plies, thin spots, and odd (what's this sorts of color blobs). Yes, its *natural*, but the quality here is a little lacking. My finished shawl is going to take a lot of work to block into softness and wearabilty. (A little bit more money and you could get something MUCH softer.) Defnitely not a next-to-the-skin wool. Thinnish for a wosted weight. I imagine this would be great for felting however, and I love the natrual color range.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lion Brand fishermen"s wool Yarn I decided to try felting a crochet project which requires 100% wool. Fishermen's wool is reasonabley priced. ( In case it did'nt work.) I made a handbag, a shawl and a large project bag....they all turned out BEAUTIFUL. My friends and family love them and asked me to make projects for them. The wonderful thing about felting handbags is no lining is required. Depending on your project, one or two strands can be used..when using one strand I use an E 3.5 mm. hook which gives it a "fabric like" out come and felting is not required. Can't say enough about why I love this yarn only the natural color of the wool and everything I make turns out better then I planed. :)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not good for felting I bought three different skeins of Fisherman's wool. They all said 100% wool AND 'great for felting." I bought one in brown, one that looked similar to birch tweed and one that was a cream color. I was making dryer balls. The brown worked out the best, however, in each batch, there would be one ball that felted the best and then some mediocre ones and one ball that ended up falling apart completely after a few uses. I even did the felting process (hot wash, hot dry) THREE times with the cream ones and I still did not get the results I wanted. This is NOT good felting yarn.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great yarn for nearly everything I found this yarn in my small town where every yarn on the shelf is acrylic--yuck. I was so pleased that I purchased 10 skeins on the internet and have dyed them to suit my mood. I've used it for felting, socks, hats, shawls, gloves, sweaters and as a double strand for chunky knitting, mittens, and jackets. Combined a strand of this wool and a strand of alpaca for extra warmth and cost efficiency. Gives great stitch definition, even after washing and blocking. Excellent all purpose wool with a nice hand and the real smell of sheep when washing--the smell diminishes with time. Recently found the brown heather and the new oatmeal color. Hooray!! Apart from my own hand spun, this is my favorite wool yarn.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as much yarn as the label states I bought 2 skeins of Fishermen's Wool to do some Kool-aid dyeing. The dyeing went great. However, as I wound the skeins into balls, I noticed a gross discrepancy between the sizes of the 2 balls after winding them. Curious, I weighed them. One weighed 5 ounces, the other only 3 1/2 ounces! The label states these skeins weigh 8 ounces! True, the skeins probably lost a little lanolin/weight during the dyeing/washing process. But sheesh! I feel like I've been ripped off of quite a bit of yardage here.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing.............this yarn has changed I have knitted with Lion Brand fisherman yarn for years and have always been pleased with the color, feel, weight etc of the yarn. I bought one skein last week for the first time in about 6 months and saw such a change. It is almost white and feels much thinner than in the past. I knit for a charity and want the items to be warm and snuggly but this yarn will not do it. The Lion brand fisherman yarn used to be great - not any more.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from not all are 100% wool Just want to clarify that the Birch Tweed is NOT 100% woo wool; is 13% Acrylic and 9% Rayon with the wool, so won't be felting with that. The Maple Tweed IS 100% wool.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed 3 years ago I bought 5 skeins of the fishermans knit yarn to make an fishermans knit afgan. I made up nice, but it started pilling right away. I thought since it was new it might do this but 3 years later it is still doing it and looks trerrible. I put it away when we have guests instead of displaying it over the back of my couch. It's made in China and the quality is not like the Irish fishermans wool of old. I would not recommend this product to anyone.
